The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is preparing to announce the results for the Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations for 2025. This announcement is highly anticipated by over 44 lakh students who sat for the exams this year, with approximately 24.12 lakh students in Class 10 and 17.88 lakh in Class 12. The examinations were conducted from February 15 to April 4, 2025, with Class 10 exams concluding on March 18.
As per reports, the results are expected to be released between May 7 and May 12, 2025. While an exact date has not yet been confirmed, the CBSE typically announces results in May. Last year, the results were declared on May 13, and in 2023, they were announced on May 12. Students can check their results on official websites such as cbse.gov.in, results.cbse.nic.in, and results.digilocker.gov.in.
Students will need to enter specific details to access their results, including their roll number, school number, admit card ID, date of birth, and a security code. In case the official website faces traffic issues, students can also access their results through the DigiLocker app and the UMANG app. Additionally, results can be obtained via SMS by sending a text message in the prescribed format to the designated number.
This year, CBSE has introduced a new six-digit access code system for students’ DigiLocker accounts, allowing them to access their digital academic documents more securely. Schools will receive a student-wise access code file that can be distributed to individual students.
To pass the CBSE board examinations, students need to secure a minimum of 33% marks in each subject, including both theory and practical components. If students fall short by a few marks, the board may award grace marks to help them pass. The grading system follows a structured format where A1 represents the top 1/8th of the passed candidates, down to E, which indicates a failure.
In recent years, the CBSE has seen impressive pass percentages. In 2024, the pass rates were 93.60% for Class 10 and 87.98% for Class 12. The previous years also showed favorable results, with 2023 recording 93.12% for Class 10 and 87.33% for Class 12. The year 2021 saw peak pass percentages of 99.04% for Class 10 and 99.37% for Class 12.
As part of this year's changes, the CBSE has revised the procedure for addressing student grievances related to results. Students must now request photocopies of their evaluated answer sheets before applying for mark verification or re-evaluation. This is a shift from the previous process, which allowed students to apply for re-evaluation before obtaining their answer sheets.
Once the results are announced, students can collect their original mark sheets from their respective schools. The board will also share key statistics during a press conference, including overall pass percentages, gender-wise performance, and information regarding supplementary exams.
To further support students, the CBSE will provide free psychological counseling services for one week after the results are declared. These services will be available 24/7 to help students cope with the stress of exam results.
Students who fail in one or two subjects will have the opportunity to sit for compartment exams, expected to be held in July or August. However, those who fail in more than two subjects will need to repeat the entire academic year.
The evaluation of answer sheets began shortly after the exams concluded and is nearly complete. The board usually announces the result date either on the day of the release or the evening before, keeping students informed and prepared.
For students eager to check their results, the process includes visiting the official CBSE website, clicking on the results section, and entering their login credentials. Alternatively, students can also access their results through the IVRS system by dialing the designated number, which will provide subject-wise marks over the phone.
