Brother Stabs Sibling To Death In Betiah Tragedy

A family dispute escalates fatally as a mentally ill brother kills his younger sibling in Bihar

In a tragic incident that unfolded in Betiah, Bihar, a younger brother allegedly stabbed his elder brother to death during a family dispute. The incident took place on Sunday night, April 20, 2025, in Ward No. 18 of Naurangabagh under the jurisdiction of the Nagar police station.

The deceased, identified as 22-year-old Sahil Kumar, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Reports indicate that the altercation escalated from a minor disagreement between Sahil and his elder brother, Pradeep Kumar, who is said to be mentally unwell. Witnesses claim that Pradeep, armed with a knife, was confronted by Sahil, who questioned his brother about the weapon. This confrontation reportedly triggered Pradeep’s violent response.

According to local sources, Pradeep attacked Sahil with the knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. Despite attempts by bystanders to rush Sahil to the Government Medical College Hospital, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Medical examinations revealed that Sahil had sustained three to four stab wounds on his body.

The police responded promptly to the scene and arrested Pradeep Kumar, recovering the knife believed to be used in the attack. The seriousness of the incident prompted the police to call in a forensic team (FSL) to gather evidence. Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Vivek Deep arrived at the location to oversee the investigation.

SDPO Deep described the incident as unfortunate, noting, "This is a tragic loss of life between two brothers due to a violent clash. The accused, Pradeep, is reported to be mentally unstable." He further mentioned that no formal complaints had been lodged by the family prior to this incident, but the police are prepared to take appropriate legal action as needed.

Local residents expressed their shock and disbelief over the incident, struggling to comprehend how a brother could turn against his sibling in such a brutal manner. The community is now mourning the loss of Sahil, who was working as a teacher at the Shivrajpur Anusuchit Jati Primary School in the nearby Nautan block.

As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on Pradeep’s mental health status, given his history of mental illness and ongoing treatment in Chandigarh. This tragic event has sent ripples of grief and concern throughout the local community, raising questions about family dynamics and mental health issues.

In light of this incident, community leaders and mental health advocates are calling for greater awareness and support for families dealing with mental health challenges. They emphasize the importance of early intervention and resources for those struggling with mental illness to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
