The Brigada Militar of Rio Grande do Sul has officially announced a public competition for 1,200 vacancies for the position of First Class Soldier, with an initial salary of R$ 5,944.85. The announcement was made on March 21, 2025, and the competition is being organized by Fundatec, a well-known educational institution responsible for various selection processes in Brazil.
The registration period for interested candidates has started and will remain open until April 22, 2025. Applicants must pay a registration fee of R$ 118.79 to participate in this highly sought-after recruitment. According to the announcement, the evaluation stages will consist of an intellectual exam slated for June 8, 2025, followed by additional assessments including a health exam, physical capability evaluation, and a psychological assessment.
The competition is particularly notable as it has a broad scope of candidate inclusion. Out of the total 1,200 vacancies, 984 will be awarded through general competition, with additional slots reserved for specific demographics: 192 for black individuals, 12 for trans individuals, and 12 for members of indigenous groups. However, there are no reserved slots for candidates with disabilities, given the nature of the duties associated with the soldier position.
To qualify, candidates must meet several requirements, including holding a completed secondary education, being between the ages of 18 and 25 by the time of application, and attaining minimum height specifications—1.65 meters for male candidates and 1.60 meters for female candidates. Additionally, applicants must possess a valid driver’s license of at least category B, along with a clean disciplinary record.
The competition process is divided into several phases. Initially, the candidates must complete the intellectual exam, which will feature multiple-choice questions covering subjects such as Portuguese language, general knowledge, mathematics, specific legislation, human rights, citizenship, and information technology. The exam, lasting three hours and thirty minutes, will be held in several cities, including Porto Alegre, Cachoeirinha, Canoas, Novo Hamburgo, and São Leopoldo.
Following the intellectual exam, successful candidates will undergo a health exam conducted by the military health service, assessing their overall health condition, dental health, and laboratory parameters. The health exam is crucial, as only those who pass this stage will move on to the physical capability evaluations.
The physical capability tests will include specific requirements for each gender. Male candidates must perform five correct bar pull-ups, complete 40 sit-ups within 60 seconds, and run a distance of 2,500 meters within 12 minutes. Female candidates will be assessed on their performance in a different manner: they must hold a fixed bar position for 20 seconds, perform 32 sit-ups within the same time frame, and run 2,100 meters within the 12-minute limit.
The final assessment is a psychological evaluation aimed at understanding the behavioral tendencies and competencies of the candidates. This stage includes a collective testing phase, followed by an individual interview to delve deeper into the psychological profiles of the candidates.
The payment structure for First Class Soldiers includes not just the competitive salary but also specific allowances, including a meal voucher of R$ 400, which adds to the overall compensation. Recruits will work approximately 40 hours per week, unlike during the training period when hours may vary based on the curricular requirements of the police training schools.
The announcement of this recruitment drive comes in the wake of heightened awareness within Brazil concerning employment stability and career opportunities within the public sector, especially in law enforcement. With the initial pay standing at R$ 5,944.85, many hope this contest will offer a reliable career trajectory for a significant number of applicants.
Last conducted in 2022, the previous selection by the Brigada Militar offered 4,000 positions, showcasing an ongoing need for personnel within the organization. With the importance of public safety, the current recruitment is viewed as a critical step to bolster the ranks of the military police for the region.
As Brazil approaches significant socio-political shifts with the upcoming elections, the reaction to public job opportunities remains significant, and the influx of applicants into this contest is expected to be high. Interested candidates are encouraged to prepare thoroughly and participate in this promising career opportunity.
