Black Snow Season 2 Premieres With Gripping Mysteries

The Australian thriller returns for its second season on New Year’s Day, featuring complex narratives and new characters.

Fans of the Australian thriller series Black Snow can gear up for its second season, which is set to premiere on New Year’s Day exclusively on Stan. The eagerly anticipated season will feature the return of Travis Fimmel, known for his roles in popular series such as Vikings and Dune: Prophecy, reprising his character Detective Cormack.

This season, Fimmel, along with Megan Smart, who plays police officer Samara Kahlil, delves deep as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of Zoe Jacobs, who went missing twenty years ago during her own 21st birthday party. The storyline promises to intertwine with Detective Cormack’s personal quest—searching for his younger brother, who vanished during their childhood.

The series commenced filming against the stunning backdrop of Queensland’s Glasshouse Mountains, adding to its appeal. This season is particularly special for Fimmel, who takes on the added responsibility of directing the final episode, marking his directorial debut within the series.

Supported by industry veterans, the show aims to maintain the gripping momentum established by its critically acclaimed first season. Director Sian Davies returns alongside executive producer Rosemary Blight and series creator Lucas Taylor to guide the storyline, ensuring fans remain on the edge of their seats.

Notably, the second season will introduce new cast members including Jana McKinnon and Dan Spielman, promising fresh dynamics and plot twists. Kat Stewart, known for her role on Offspring, will add depth to the already impressive cast.

Black Snow not only highlights the creative efforts of its cast and crew but also reflects the support from various production bodies including Screen Queensland and Screen NSW, underlining its significance within the Australian film industry. This collaboration aims to sustain local narratives and support burgeoning talent.

Besides the thrilling storyline, the social commentary embedded within the series resonates deeply with current events. For example, one character, Senator Julie Cosgrove, portrayed by Kat Stewart, brings up pressing societal issues, such as the housing crisis. At one lavish event, she remarked on the role of bureaucratic hurdles, asserting her intention to “get tools in tradies’ hands so we can get families in houses,” which underlines the stark contrasts between wealth and real social issues faced within the community.

The season premiere promises not just to unravel mysteries but also to engage with topical subjects, ensuring audiences remain engrossed both with the plot and its social relevance. Following the double-episode launch on New Year’s Day, episodes will roll out weekly, providing ample time for viewers to absorb each thrilling turn. For those eager to refresh their memories, season one is currently available for streaming on Stan.

Black Snow is produced by Goalpost Pictures and has garnered attention for its rich narrative and engaging character arcs. The upcoming season will be available for audiences not just in Australia but is also slated to reach U.S. shores through AMC Networks’ Sundance Now platform, set to premiere there in 2025.

The return of Black Snow marks another milestone within the Australian screen industry, pushing boundaries of storytelling and creativity. Fans and newcomers alike will find plenty to relish when the series makes its highly anticipated return this January.
