Bernard Généreux Wins Fourth Term In Côte-du-Sud Riding

The Conservative incumbent secures victory with 46.1% of the vote in a competitive election.

In a decisive victory, incumbent Bernard Généreux of the Conservative Party has been re-elected to represent Côte-du-Sud–Rivière-du-Loup–Kataskomiq–Témiscouata in the House of Commons. With 340 out of 347 polling stations reporting, Généreux received 28,559 votes, accounting for 46.1% of the total ballots cast. His nearest competitor, Liberal candidate Rémi Massé, garnered 18,663 votes, or 30.1%, while Bloc Québécois candidate Diane Sénécal came in third with 12,287 votes, representing 19.8%. The total number of valid votes amounted to 61,959.

Généreux's victory marks his fourth consecutive term in office, having previously been elected in 2015, 2019, and 2021. His political journey began in 2009 during a by-election, and despite a narrow defeat in 2011, he has since established a strong foothold in the region. "Serving the citizens of our beautiful region is a tremendous honor," Généreux stated, reflecting on his commitment to the local communities. He expressed gratitude to his supporters and acknowledged the significant voter turnout, which stood at 64.71% for the counted polling stations.

Throughout his campaign, Généreux prioritized grassroots engagement, visiting all 76 municipalities in his riding to listen to constituents' concerns. He emphasized his dedication to addressing local issues, particularly the rising cost of living, stating, "The primary job of an MP is to take care of the people they represent." Généreux believes that the efforts made by him and his team over the past 11 years played a crucial role in securing this latest victory.

In addition to Généreux's success, the 2025 federal election concluded with the Liberal Party forming a minority government, securing 167 seats, while the Conservative Party now serves as the official opposition with 145 seats. Généreux's win is seen as a testament to his popularity and effectiveness as a representative in the region.

Rémi Massé, who was attempting a political comeback after previously serving as a federal deputy from 2015 to 2019, expressed no regrets about his campaign despite the loss. He acknowledged Généreux's longstanding presence in the community, saying, "It’s a victory for Mr. Généreux; we congratulate him. He has been here for ten years, and people appreciated his work." Massé noted that while he had hoped for a favorable outcome, he accepted the results with serenity, recognizing the challenges of competing against an incumbent.

The Bloc Québécois candidate, Diane Sénécal, finished third, receiving just over 5,000 votes. The party struggled to make significant inroads in a riding that has historically favored conservative candidates. Despite her visible campaign presence, Sénécal was unable to extend beyond the party's core support base.

As Généreux prepares to take office for another term, he remains committed to advocating for local interests and supporting families, entrepreneurs, and community organizations. He aims to continue energizing the local economy while fostering a strong connection with the constituents he serves.

Looking ahead, Généreux is set to appear on the show "Bonjour Côte-du-Sud" on May 1, 2025, at 8:35 a.m., where he will discuss his plans and priorities for the new term. This platform will allow him to further engage with the community and outline how he intends to honor the renewed trust placed in him by the voters.

As the dust settles on the election results, the political landscape in Côte-du-Sud–Rivière-du-Loup–Kataskomiq–Témiscouata remains a focal point of interest, with Généreux's re-election underscoring the importance of local representation in the federal government. His ability to connect with voters and address their concerns will be pivotal as he embarks on this new chapter of his political career.
