Beca Rita Cetina Payments Begin In Mexico For April 2025

Families receive financial support to prevent school dropouts as payments are scheduled by last name

The payments for the Beca Rita Cetina Gutiérrez in the State of México, corresponding to the March-April bimonthly period, have begun. This initiative, provided by the Federal Government, aims to prevent school desertion by supporting families with expenses related to basic education, particularly focusing on secondary schools in Edomex.

The Beca Rita Cetina supports families with a payment of $1,900 pesos every two months, plus an additional $700 pesos for each extra student in the same family attending secondary school. The support is deposited into a Banco del Bienestar card, which was distributed in previous weeks according to each public school.

The payment schedule for April 2025 is organized according to the first letter of the last name of the parent or guardian. For instance, payments were made on April 1 and 2 for last names starting with the letters A and B, respectively. On Friday, April 4, beneficiaries with last names starting with the letter "C" will receive their payments, followed by letters D, E, and F on April 7.

In case a beneficiary does not see the payment reflected on the expected date, they should take certain actions. First, they should verify the status of their Banco del Bienestar card. It’s important to note that the card does not need to be activated manually; it is activated automatically when the deposit is made. Beneficiaries can check their balance using the Banco del Bienestar app, at ATMs, or by calling 800 900 2000, selecting option 1157. For additional assistance, the Coordinación Nacional de Becas para el Bienestar can be contacted at 5511620300, where they are available Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Beneficiaries are also advised to change their card’s PIN at any Banco del Bienestar branch. They can do this by inserting their card into an ATM and selecting the “Change PIN” option or by visiting a teller with an official identification.

Rita Rosaura Cetina Gutiérrez, after whom the scholarship is named, was a pioneering teacher, writer, and feminist in women's education in Mexico, originally from Yucatán. She founded the Sociedad Científica y Literaria de Mérida and La Siempreviva, a school in Yucatán that was part of a cultural project led by women. Cetina was an advocate for education as a right for all, not just men, and she passed away in 1908.

The Beca Rita Cetina is part of a broader effort by the Mexican government to support families and prevent school dropouts. The payments began on April 1 and will continue until April 28, 2025, with the last beneficiaries, whose last names start with W, X, Y, and Z, receiving their payments on the final day.

According to Julio León, the National Coordinator of Scholarships for Welfare, students in Durango and Veracruz enrolled in the Beca Rita Cetina and other welfare scholarships will receive double payments during this bimonthly period due to upcoming electoral processes in those states. This means they will receive payments for both the March-April and May-June periods, amounting to $3,800 pesos if they have no more than one student registered.

For families with multiple children enrolled in secondary school, the financial support can significantly alleviate household expenses. The program is designed to ensure that students remain in school and complete their education, which is vital for their future opportunities.

The payments are distributed in an orderly manner based on the initial of each beneficiary's last name to avoid congestion at withdrawal points. The detailed payment schedule is as follows:
