Baalbek Union Delivers Diesel Fuel To Douris Municipality

Shafiq Shehadeh hands over 1,600 liters to support local water systems.

On March 14, 2025, the Union of Municipalities of Baalbek delivered 1,600 liters of diesel fuel to the municipality of Douris, Lebanon. This significant aid is part of a broader initiative aimed at improving social and economic conditions for displaced communities, which often struggle to meet basic needs.

The head of the Union, Shafiq Shehadeh, handed over the diesel fuel to Saleh Mlouk, a representative from the Al-Hadatha Association, during a small ceremony attended by members of the Douris municipal council. The tank, equipped for use, will help operate water pumps, providing much-needed support for the village and its surroundings.

This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is partnered with the organization WELT HUNGER HILFE. The Al-Hadatha Association is responsible for implementing the project, which is focused on bolstering resilience within host communities like Douris, where many displaced individuals have sought refuge.

During the handover, Shehadeh expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Al-Hadatha Association and the dedicated volunteers behind this initiative. "I would like to thank the Al-Hadatha Association and the voluntary committee for this project, considering the needs of the village," he remarked, highlighting the importance of addressing the community's urgent requirements.

The delivery of diesel fuel is particularly timely, as the region faces challenges related to resource scarcity and high demands on local infrastructures due to the influx of displaced persons. The project underlines the commitment to enhancing the capacity of local municipalities and supporting communities overwhelmed by demographic pressures.

Residents of Douris have expressed gratitude for this assistance, recognizing how the operational capacity of water pumps can lead to improved living conditions and potential agricultural activities, which have been stifled by resource limitations.

This initiative is part of larger efforts aimed at integrating displaced populations with host communities, ensuring they have access to necessary resources and fostering harmonious coexistence. Programs like these highlight not only the urgent needs faced by vulnerable communities but also the collaborative efforts among local governments, NGOs, and international entities to respond effectively.

Through the joint efforts of the Union of Municipalities and the Al-Hadatha Association, Douris is positioned to potentially create more sustainable environments for both locals and newcomers. This empirical approach, driven by on-the-ground needs, reflects the priorities of humanitarian agencies and governmental bodies dedicated to improving lives amid challenging circumstances.

Going forward, projects like the diesel fuel delivery to Douris will hopefully ignite broader discussions on how aid can be effectively deployed to assist vulnerable communities across Lebanon and beyond. With continued investment and support, there is hope for resilient, thriving communities capable of overcoming the challenges they face.
