Austrian Duo Abor & Tynna To Represent Germany In Eurovision

Siblings geared up to impress at ESC 2025 with guidance from Stefan Raab and a unique musical bond.

The Austrian music duo Abor & Tynna, known for their distinctive sound, will represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) scheduled for May 17, 2025, in Basel. The siblings, whose real names are Attila and Tünde Bornemisza, are set to showcase their talents on an international stage, backed by the renowned entertainer Stefan Raab.

Raab, notable for coaching Lena Meyer-Landrut to victory in the 2010 ESC, is not only a familiar face in the German entertainment scene but now plays a vital role in mentoring the budding stars. Interestingly, Abor & Tynna admit that they knew Raab only by name before their application. "We knew Raab only by name before the application," said Tynna in an interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur. "My brother recognized him from the TV show 'Schlag den Raab,' but beyond that, we didn't know much about him or his past contributions to the ESC. Now, he gives us a lot of input and acts as a support system for us as we prepare for this huge event.”

Stefan Raab's selection of Abor & Tynna comes with high expectations. He aims for them to clinch the top spot at the contest, a significant feat in the world of European music. This level of ambition makes the duo understandably nervous yet excited. Speaking on the importance of their participation, Abor noted, "This is part of world history. And when you take part, your name will remain on some lists forever—on Wikipedia or whatever. It’s about making a mark in the world.”

As siblings, their collaboration has its benefits. Tynna explained the closeness they share, stating, "Having the same family means if one of us has to cancel a date for a family reason, it applies to both of us. We rarely misunderstand each other, although we sometimes do have conflicts. But siblings are accustomed to resolving those kinds of issues.” Their unique dynamic plays into their musical development as they strive toward common goals despite their individual personalities. While Tynna is known for her energetic presence and Abor for his calmer demeanor, they find common ground in their musical pursuits.

The upcoming performance in Basel promises to be a spectacle unlike anything seen in their previous appearances. The duo revealed that Tynna had dramatically smashed Abor's cello during a performance at the preliminary decision for the ESC, an incident that raised eyebrows yet also highlighted their artistic creativity. "The performance in Basel will be different from 'Chefsache 2025' due to limited time and resources,” Abor declared. He assured fans that their ESC stage presence would far exceed what audiences experienced in earlier shows, which were limited in scope.

Musical influences played a substantial role in their upbringing, with their father serving as a cellist for the Vienna Philharmonic. Tynna described their home environment as being "somewhat traditional and a touch stricter," and emphasized that even vacations were filled with musical experiences, such as her father blasting 80s CDs in the car. "The music you listen to in your childhood has a significant impact on you,” she noted, highlighting the lasting effect it has had on their artistic direction. When asked about which influences they consider uniquely Austrian, Tynna promptly cited Falco, a beloved native artist.

Building on their excitement for the ESC and their musical careers, Abor & Tynna are also preparing to go on tour starting in September 2025. Their latest album, titled "Bittersüß," was released before their ESC preliminary decision, featuring additional catchy tracks that highlight their musical growth.

As they gear up for the prestigious event, Abor & Tynna find themselves not only stepping into the spotlight for their performance but also carrying the weight of aspiration, dreams, and the legacy of their family. With Raab's support and the passion for their craft, they aim to leave a mark on the world's music scene while cherishing the bond that brings them together as siblings. Their journey to Eurovision is just the beginning of what they hope will be an enduring and impactful musical career.
