Anti-Terrorism Training And St. George Ribbon Campaign Unite Pskov

On the same day, Velikiye Luki held an anti-terrorism drill while Pskov launched a campaign to honor fallen heroes.

On April 24, 2025, Velikiye Luki witnessed a significant anti-terrorism training exercise organized by an operational group that brought together various security departments including the FSB, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the National Guard, and the Emergency Situations Ministry of the Pskov region. This exercise was designed to enhance the preparedness of these agencies in the face of potential terrorist threats.

The training simulated a scenario in which a group organized an unsanctioned rally that escalated into mass riots. Following this chaos, the participants of the exercise acted out a situation where hostages were taken at an educational institution in the city. This realistic drill was crucial for allowing the operational group to practice the algorithms necessary for suppressing terrorist activities.

During the exercise, the team implemented measures aimed at improving the coordination and effectiveness of the forces and resources dedicated to combating terrorism. The objectives of the training were successfully achieved, providing valuable experience that will be utilized in future operations. The lessons learned will inform the ongoing preparation of the operational headquarters in the Pskov region as they work to counteract terrorism.

In a parallel development on the same day, the Pskov region kicked off the 'St. George Ribbon' campaign, a patriotic initiative aimed at honoring the memory of those who fought for the country's freedom. The campaign began on April 24, 2025, with ribbon distribution events held in Pskov at the Children's Park and Lenin Square.

Residents in Pskov can also obtain these ribbons at the Youth Center located at Konnaya Street, 2, during weekdays from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This campaign is particularly significant as it seeks to distribute around 100,000 St. George ribbons throughout the region between April 24 and May 9, coinciding with the celebrations leading up to Victory Day.

On the first day of the campaign, volunteers in various municipalities, including Nevel, distributed ribbons as a sign of remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield. According to reports from the local newspaper, "Nevelskiy Vestnik," elderly citizens received the symbol of victory with tears of gratitude, and volunteers took the time to explain the significance of the ribbon's colors and its history to those unfamiliar with it.

The St. George ribbon has become a powerful symbol of military glory in Russia, and this campaign is a national effort to preserve historical memory. It unites millions who wear the ribbon as a sign of respect for heroes and veterans. Over 600 volunteers are actively participating in this campaign, not only distributing ribbons but also conducting additional activities such as the 'Fiery Pictures of War' and 'Windows of Victory' in collaboration with the Movement of the First.

This year holds special significance as President Vladimir Putin declared 2025 as the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. This declaration serves as a tribute to the memory of heroes from all generations, from those who defended the country during the Great Patriotic War to contemporary soldiers serving in ongoing military operations. It emphasizes the enduring value of patriotism and the importance of protecting the homeland.

As the anti-terrorism exercise concluded successfully and the St. George Ribbon campaign commenced, the events of April 24, 2025, highlighted both the commitment to national security and the deep respect for those who have fought for Russia's freedom. These initiatives reflect a society that values both safety and historical remembrance, aiming to foster a sense of unity and purpose among its citizens.
