The American golfer sets new records as Thai players shine at home event.

The Honda LPGA Thailand 2025 tournament unfolded from February 20-23, 2025, at the scenic Siam Country Club Old Course located in Chonburi, Thailand. The event featured 72 of the world’s top female golfers competing for a generous total prize purse of $1.7 million. This year’s tournament was particularly special, as it drew large crowds eager to witness the talent on display.

Angel Yin, ranked 17th globally, clinched the championship title with remarkable skill, finishing with a stunning total score of 28 under par, 260 (67-64-64-65). Yin’s impressive final round included seven birdies, securing her second career LPGA title after her victory at the Buick LPGA Shanghai in 2023. "With my performance this week, I am really happy to take the win!" she exclaimed, showcasing her enthusiasm after the accomplishment.

She narrowly bested Japan's Akie Iwai, who wrapped up the tournament with a score of 27 under par, 261 (62-67-71-61), during her final round which saw her record 10 birdies, alongside one eagle and one bogey. "This year's event was special, and I loved competing here!" Iwai remarked, reflecting on the intense competition.

While Yin and Iwai dominated the leaderboard, impressive performances were also delivered by local Thai golfers. Atthaya Thitikul, currently ranked second worldwide, finished strong at third place with 21 under par, 267 (68-64-69-66), highlighting her growth and consistency. Her performance included six birdies on the final day, though it wasn’t enough to catch up to the leaders.

Adding to Thailand's golfing pride was Patty Tavatanakit, last year’s champion, who ended the tournament tied for fourth place with 19 under par, 269 (71-68-65-65). Following her rounds, Tavatanakit expressed her commitment to inspiring young golfers through her presence on the international scene, stating, "We aim to inspire more young golfers through events like this."

The tournament also provided opportunities for several rising stars from Thailand, such as Janvi Wannachai and Pimpisa Raprakhon, who gained valuable experience competing alongside seasoned professionals. Their scores, reflecting solid efforts, were commendable, with Janvi placing tied for 45th and Pimpisa finishing tied for 61st.

Beyond the competition, the tournament was marked by its dedication to cultural engagement. Players and fans were treated to Thai cultural experiences, inviting them not just to compete, but to immerse themselves in the local lifestyle. Events showcased traditional Thai cuisine and hospitality, leaving lasting impressions on the international participants.

Anticipation for the tournament grew as fan attendance reached nearly twenty thousand over the days of play, reflecting golf’s rising popularity and the local community's support. The atmosphere at Siam Country Club was electric, as spectators cheered on players, hoping to see the title stay with Thai talents.

For the future, the Honda LPGA Thailand aims to keep building on past successes and fortifying its place on the LPGA schedule. With continued focus on promoting female athletes and golf tourism, the event stands as a beacon for the growth of women’s golf, both locally and globally.

The Honda LPGA Thailand 2025 tournament clearly embodied not just competitive spirit but also cultural exchange and community engagement, promising even more exciting developments for the sport and its enthusiasts in the years to come.
