The iconic Amrit Udyan, previously known as the Mughal Gardens, was officially opened to the public today, February 2, 2025. This renowned garden at Rashtrapati Bhavan is set to welcome visitors for its annual viewing from February 2 to March 30, 2025, offering one of the best spring floral displays of the season.
Gracing the opening ceremony was President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu. She expressed the significance of the garden, saying, "The charm and beauty of Amrit Udyan resonate with the rich history of our nation, inviting everyone to experience its splendor during the spring bloom." Visitors can explore this vibrant oasis six days a week from 10 AM to 6 PM, enjoying the stunning arrangements of seasonal flowers, though the garden will be closed every Monday for maintenance.
This year, Amrit Udyan is expected to attract vast crowds eager to witness its breathtaking scenery. Last year alone, approximately nine lakh people visited. Deputy press secretary Navika Gupta noted, "This year, we are hoping the number of visitors will surpass the last recorded figure," showcasing the growing interest and admiration for the gardens.
The garden will also be closed on specific days due to various events, including on February 5 for polling for the Delhi Legislative Assembly, February 20 and 21 for the Visitors' Conference at Rashtrapati Bhavan, and March 14 for Holi celebrations. For everyone's convenience, entry and exits will be handled through Gate No. 35, located near North Avenue and Rashtrapati Bhavan, ensuring orderly access to the gardens.
To facilitate easy transportation for visitors, there is complimentary shuttle service from Central Secretariat Metro Station to Gate No. 35 operating every 30 minutes from 9 AM to 6 PM. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to avoid large gatherings typically drawn by the seasonal floral displays.
Entry to Amrit Udyan is free, with bookings available both online at visit.rashtrapatibhavan.gov.in and through walk-in. The gardens will boast numerous vibrant section areas, including Bal Vatika, Plumeria theme garden, and the Bonsai garden. This year, guests will be treated to over 140 types of roses and more than 80 other shrub varieties alongside the stunning tulips. Horticulturist Avneesh Banswal remarked, "Our effort remains to plant seasonal flowers," underscoring the continuous improvement within the grounds.
For greater visitor engagement, QR codes will be placed throughout the garden to navigate and inform guests about the various displays. Notably, Amrit Udyan will also host Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav from March 6 to 9, 2025. This festival will showcase the diverse cultural heritage and traditions of Southern India, featuring stalls with handicrafts, textiles, and cuisines from those states, alongside cultural performances.
While enjoying the lush landscapes, visitors are permitted to carry mobile phones, electronic keys, and lightweight bags. Enhanced visitor amenities, including drinking water, toilets, and first aid facilities, will also be provided throughout the venue.
The annual flowering of Amrit Udyan not only offers beauty for flora enthusiasts but also enriched communal experiences through cultural celebrations, reaffirming its position as one of Delhi’s cherished attractions.
