In a concerted effort to enhance public safety, police and gendarmes in Alba conducted extensive checks over the past 24 hours, verifying hundreds of vehicles and individuals as part of regular traffic enforcement operations. The initiative, which included testing for alcohol and drug use among drivers, resulted in the retention of five driving licenses and the withdrawal of five vehicle registration certificates.
According to the Inspectorate of Alba County (IPJ Alba), a total of 374 individuals and 224 vehicles were checked through the eDAC application, a digital tool designed to streamline law enforcement efforts. The operation uncovered 107 contravention offenses, primarily related to violations of traffic regulations. The total amount of fines imposed reached a staggering 23,162 lei.
In a related effort, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) reported that over 48,870 checks were carried out using the eDAC application to prevent and combat illegal activities. This comprehensive approach not only targeted traffic violations but also aimed at broader public safety concerns. The MAI's operations led to the apprehension of 164 individuals caught committing crimes, with preventive measures ordered for 35 of them.
Throughout the day, MAI personnel responded to 4,301 events, focusing on maintaining public order and addressing emergency situations. Out of these, 2,661 were related to public order, while 1,640 involved urgent responses. The proactive measures taken by the MAI resulted in the identification of 742 potential crimes, with 164 perpetrators apprehended on the spot for a total of 170 criminal acts.
In addition to traffic enforcement, the MAI's operations included significant interventions at the border. A total of 3,189 border police officers were deployed, with 2,079 focusing on surveillance and 755 on control at various border crossing points. These efforts facilitated the processing of 32,254 individuals and 6,980 vehicles entering the country, while 30,110 individuals and 6,202 vehicles were controlled upon exiting.
During these border checks, authorities denied entry to 15 foreign nationals and uncovered 29 offenses, applying 54 contravention sanctions amounting to 32,606 lei. Furthermore, 20 illegal migrants were detected, underscoring the ongoing challenges faced by border security in the region.
Addressing the issue of road safety, the MAI reported that 417 drivers were removed from traffic due to safety concerns. Among these, 45 were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, while 11 were under the influence of prohibited substances. Additionally, seven individuals without valid driving licenses were caught, and 421 vehicles lacking safety compliance were halted from operating on public roads.
The MAI also highlighted its commitment to emergency medical assistance, reporting 1,383 missions, including 43 fire extinguishing operations and eight extrications, which collectively saved 20 lives. Furthermore, ten aircraft were deployed for various missions, including aero-medical assistance, training flights, and traffic monitoring, resulting in 14 lives saved through swift medical interventions.
In terms of immigration, the MAI issued 196,572 residence permits for temporary protection, with 115 issued on May 6, 2025. The occupancy rate of accommodation centers for migrants stood at 12.9%, reflecting ongoing efforts to manage the influx of individuals seeking refuge.
In addition to these operations, the MAI reported the issuance of 2,929 driving licenses and the registration of 5,808 vehicles. A total of 5,725 individuals participated in driving exams, with 3,708 taking the theoretical test and 2,017 completing the practical test.
