Agreement Signed To Support Orphaned Children From Gaza War

Initiative aims to provide aid and psychological support for thousands of affected children.

Rabat – The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency and the Palestinian Ministry of Social Development have formalized their commitment to support orphaned and amputee children affected by the devastating Israeli war on Gaza. On March 3rd, 2025, officials from the two organizations convened to sign the agreement, which aims to facilitate social projects intended to help these children recover from the horrific impacts of conflict.

The agreement focuses on aiding youngsters who lost limbs during the war, allowing them to return to as normal of a life as possible by providing psychological support through the agency’s mental health clinic. "Our collaborative efforts are geared toward the most vulnerable child victims of this devastating situation," said Palestinian Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad during the signing ceremony held in Ramallah.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, the toll from the conflict, which escalated starting October 2023, has been staggering. More than 38,000 children have been orphaned, contributing to what the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs calls the largest population of amputee children recorded in modern history.

The agreement signed will support orphaned children registered with the Ministry of Social Development as part of the established Al-Quds Orphan Sponsorship Project. Hamad expressed gratitude to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency for their humanitarian initiatives, underscoring how important their role has been for the residents of Al Quds (Jerusalem) and the wider Palestinian population, who have suffered immense degradation because of the persistent violence.

Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, director of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, remarked on the significance of the agreement, describing it as part of Morocco’s broader assistance efforts for Palestinians recovering from the devastating impacts of warfare. This initiative is backed by Morocco’s Ministry of Solidarity, Social Integration, and Family, which has provided funding of $200,000 to undergird these commitments.

One of the key components of the agreement outlines the agency’s strategies for caring for orphaned children starting from Al Quds, where related programs have been active since 2008. Cherkaoui also mentioned the provision for psychological support for children needing these services through the agency’s online mental health clinic.

To facilitate the delivery of these services, partner centers located both within Jerusalem and Gaza will be instrumental, providing personal interactions and support for affected children. The collaboration aims not only to comprehensively address the psychological fallout stemming from the war but also to restore dignity and assist recovery for many impacted families.

This timely agreement highlights the on-going humanitarian crisis resulting from recent conflicts, bringing the attention and resources necessary to support those caught in the dire circumstances of warfare, especially young children who should never face such challenges.
