2025 Global Trends: Preparing For Change Across Industries

Experts predict significant shifts driven by technology, consumer demands, and sustainability concerns.

The year 2025 is shaping up to be transformative across several industries, reflecting shifting consumer behaviors, technological advancements, and policy changes. With predictions and insights from experts, the trends for 2025 encompass everything from housing to travel, biometrics, sustainability, and food and beverage sectors.

One of the most ambitious predictions relates to housing, particularly from the Labour government, which has pledged to build 1.5 million new homes within its term. According to Simon Vernon-Harcourt, design and planning director at City & Country, this initiative, supported by the National Planning Policy Framework, is pivotal for executing this promise. He noted, "[This] starts to open the strategy for delivering the 1.5 million homes they are targeting to deliver in their term in office." Expect to see local authorities gearing up to allocate substantial land for new development.

Another significant trend is occurring within the travel and expense (T&E) management space. Experts from SAP Concur foresee continued evolution as AI emerges as a key player. They predict slow inflation will ease travel costs, leading to more purchasing power for businesses. T&E management will undergo notable shifts, with more travelers favoring personalized, self-service booking options. "Expect breakthroughs in AI, system integration, diversity of travel options and cross-functional collaboration," the report suggests, highlighting the necessity for businesses to adapt quickly.

Facial recognition technology is also set to disrupt traditional border control processes dramatically, enhancing traveler experience and security. Vito Fabbrizio, Managing Director of the Biometrics Business Unit at HID, highlighted the surge of interest and application of AI within biometric systems. He said, "Artificial intelligence is driving significant advancements in biometric technology," as airports and border crossings aim to offer frictionless authentication for travelers.

Within the sustainability sphere, the ERM Sustainability Institute is gearing up to host discussions on major trends impacting global companies. Their upcoming panel on February 5th, 2025, led by director Aiste Brackley, aims to explore developments including climate change, technology, and sustainable practices.

Simultaneously, the food and beverage industry will witness dynamic shifts. Soumya Nair, global research, and insights director at Kerry, predicts consumers will increasingly seek "a balance of adventurous taste profiles and wellness-driven goals." Emerging flavors such as yuzu and Sichuan spices will reshape local markets worldwide as manufacturers tap new trends to attract health-conscious consumers.

Each of these sectors reflects the broader theme of adaptation and response to market changes. For example, as geopolitical conditions fluctuate, Asia-focused asset managers will closely monitor the impact of U.S.-China relations on investment strategies. The anticipated complexity brought by the re-election of Donald Trump highlights the need for agility and foresight.

What stands out across these diverse industries is the emphasis on integrating advancements—whether through technology like AI or adapting to shifts like consumer preferences for sustainable options and adventurous flavors. The call to action for many businesses across sectors is clear: innovate or risk falling behind.

Understanding these trends will be key for stakeholders as we move closer to 2025, guiding decisions and shaping strategies to thrive amid emergent challenges and opportunities.
