2025 Formula E Season Set To Ignite Global Racing Scene

With record-breaking viewership and innovative racing features, electric motorsport's finest showcase their skills this season.

The 2025 Formula E season is shaping up to be one for the record books as it marks the series' strong entry onto the global racing scene with thrilling events, intense rivalries, and groundbreaking technological advances. With the championship celebrating its tenth anniversary last year, Season 11 features 16 exhilarating races across iconic urban locations, including newcomer cities like Miami and Jeddah, along with double-header events in Monaco and Tokyo.

Buenos Aires hosted the opening race, where championship leader António Félix da Costa showcased his skills, bringing home another podium finish for the works team. He leads the drivers’ standings with 37 points, closely followed by Oliver Rowland and Mitch Evans, who both sit at 25 points. The championship has seen fierce competition early on, indicating just how tight the race for the title is this year.

Porsche has demonstrated its prowess this season, securing significant victories. The brand's commitment to electric racing is clear, as they aim for their tenth consecutive podium this weekend with drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Félix da Costa. Wehrlein claimed pole position last race, and both drivers are eager to maintain their momentum as they take to the track.

“This year is special because we have the chance to extend our streak of podium finishes,” said Wehrlein. “Our team is pumped and ready for the challenge,” emphasizing the spirit of competition among the drivers as they gear up for the Jeddah E-Prix.

The introduction of the Pit Boost feature this season has revolutionized the racing strategy. For the first time, drivers can recharge their batteries during the race, leading to exciting possibilities for energy management and race dynamics. The innovative rapid charging will see 3.85 kWh transferred to the cars during pit stops, allowing them to refuel much faster. “This new feature could greatly impact how we manage our resources on the track,” remarked Florian Modlinger, Director of Factory Motorsport Formula E.

Fans have responded enthusiastically as viewership numbers demonstrate significant growth. The opening round of the 2025 season experienced record-breaking views, with the São Paulo race attracting 40 million viewers—marking the largest audience for any Formula E event to date, setting the stage for the championship's ambitious goal of increasing its global presence.

Aarti Dabas, Chief Media Officer for Formula E, celebrated this achievement: “This strong start to the 11th season, with record audiences delivered by our key broadcasting partnerships, is great evidence of our accelerating fan growth.” Viewership increased significantly even beyond São Paulo, with the Hankook Mexico City E-Prix attracting 10.5 million cumulative viewers on CBS. This was the highest audience for any Formula E race aired in the US, indicating the rising interest in electric motorsports.

The partnership between Formula E and IMG has also opened new avenues for storytelling and archival access. The multi-year agreement allows IMG to manage over 1,000 hours of historic racing content, ensuring fans can relive the incredible moments from the past decade of competitive racing. Dabas noted, “Partnering with IMG to manage our extensive video archive ensures the incredible moments from the past decade of electric racing are preserved and accessible.”

Porsche’s commitment goes beyond just competition; it extends to innovation and sustainability. Season 11 is set to pave the way for technological advancements as teams utilize the latest GEN3 Evo vehicles to push the boundaries on and off the track. The series emphasizes promoting electric vehicle innovation, offering insights for the automobile industry enriched by the thrilling experiences of competitors.

With dynamic new locations and groundbreaking strategies, the 2025 Formula E season promises to captivate audiences around the world. The incorporation of new technologies, enhanced broadcasting capabilities, and innovative racing strategies are reshaping how the sport is experienced. With each race gripping audiences, the commitment to sustainability and fan engagement remains at the forefront of the Formula E ethos.

Looking forward, the rest of the season will include track layouts such as the modified Jeddah Corniche circuit, providing tight turns and energy recuperation opportunities for drivers. This season's developments indicate Formula E is solidifying its position as a leader within the electric racing industry, drawing even more fans to the unique spectacle of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
