Yuzu To Perform New Pokémon Theme Song "GET BACK" Starting April 11

The beloved duo brings a fresh sound to the new chapter of the anime series, capturing the essence of reclaiming dreams.

In a significant development for fans of the popular anime, the renowned music duo Yuzu has been confirmed as the performers of the opening theme song "GET BACK" for the upcoming chapter of the TV anime “Pocket Monsters,” officially titled "Mega Voltage." This new chapter, which will premiere on April 11, 2025, will be aired every Friday at 6:55 PM on TV Tokyo.

The announcement was made public on March 21, 2025, along with a promotional video (PV) showcasing a portion of the new song. The PV highlights the strong determination of protagonist Riko and her companions, setting a tone of excitement for the new adventures that lie ahead in the Pokémon universe.

Yujin Kitagawa of Yuzu expressed his honor in being part of the anime's legacy, which has been cherished by audiences young and old since its inception in 1997, the same year Yuzu made their debut. He described this collaboration as a deeply significant connection, saying, "It feels like a fateful collaboration, and I hope our work resonates well with everyone who loves Pokémon. My team and I have strived to infuse our sound and heartfelt respect for Pokémon into this new tune, 'GET BACK.'"

Koji Iwazawa, the other half of Yuzu, shared his initial surprise upon receiving the offer, acknowledging the high standards of past theme songs, which have typically been vibrant and in alignment with the anime's energetic spirit. He noted, "Honestly, I wondered how well Yuzu could blend into the Pokémon feel and whether we would be accepted by the fans. I sincerely hope that our effort brings excitement to viewers each week."

The song’s theme of “getting back” emphasizes retrieving lost dreams and returning to one’s origins, resonating with the ongoing narrative of the new chapter in the anime. The duo worked with producer TeddyLoid to create a sound that provides a fresh yet familiar experience, blending traditional anime song elements with influences from contemporary Japanese culture. The composition has been described as almost suite-like in its structure, aiming to captivate the audience.

The lyrics, co-written by Kitagawa and Iwazawa, are infused with Pokémon motifs and messages about reclaiming one's aspirations and dreams. This marks the first time in approximately seven years since Yuzu participated as an anime theme artist, with their last work dated back to 2018.

As anticipation builds, fans will also find new threads to the narrative as the anime embarks on a new journey titled "Mega Voltage," showcasing the characters Riko and Roy, among others, as they face challenges that test their growth. This chapter picks up one year post the events at Rakua, where Riko attends Sekiei Academy with her Pokémon, Mascoranya, while Roy continues his adventures with another Pokémon, Achigeta.

New visuals and footage reveal the duo’s evolving story, now including a new character named Volt, who has his own Pokémon, Yamirami, further enriching the narrative. The upcoming special episode promises exciting conflicts, including false actions from Pokémon and the team's determination to face them head-on.

Fujiwara Natsumi has been cast in the role of Volt, a character bound to add a dynamic energy to the ensemble, presenting new rivalries and friendships as the story unfolds. Regarding this new role, Fujiwara expressed her excitement towards being part of a long-loved franchise, stating, "When I found out I would be part of this historic series, I was both surprised and thrilled! Volt feels like a refreshing addition to the team, igniting a playful competition with Roy that truly captures the essence of youth."

The new chapter not only embraces its legacy but emphasizes the importance of continuity and growth within the Pokémon universe, generating excitement amongst viewers who have followed the franchise for nearly three decades. Yuzu’s hopeful message alongside their new song is aimed at all fans of the Pokémon series, marking a new evolution of creativity that they believe will keep the spirit of Pokémon alive and evolving.

As the premiere date approaches, fans can expect a vibrant and exhilarating return to the world of Pokémon, with Yuzu’s heartwarming anthem leading the way. The new series is positioned to encapsulate the essence of adventure and nostalgia while propelling the age-old tales of companionship to new heights.
