Yugorsk Region Prepares for Upcoming Events and Celebrations
The Yugorsk region is buzzing with activity as it gears up for various community events and important celebrations. Among the highlights is the Yugorsk ski marathon, which will take place on April 5 and 6, marking the occasion with new features and exciting participation opportunities.
Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Urals, the marathon will introduce a brand new stretch of trail leading to the central square of Khanty-Mansiysk, which will serve as the finish line for the classic style race. This year, organizers have added additional distance for younger athletes, introducing a 15-kilometer option for skiers aged 15 to 16, allowing them to join the competition free of charge. With about 2,000 participants already registered, the event draws not only local skiers but also enthusiasts from across borders, including guests from Poland and Kazakhstan. Among the contenders, elite athletes such as Olympic champions Olga Zaitseva and Anton Shipulin are set to participate, bringing heightened anticipation to the event.
Participants can choose from various distances ranging from 5 to 50 kilometers, competing in either freestyle or classic styles. Unique additions this year include retro and ethnographic races where skiers can don vintage Soviet-era gear or traditional northern costumes, adding a flair of nostalgia and culture to the event.
Meanwhile, the region also celebrated its military heroes. On February 20, the communities of Yugra came together to honor military personnel, veterans, and participants currently engaged in combat operations. Governor Ruslan Kukharyk expressed gratitude to these defenders of the homeland, emphasizing the bravery and dedication of those serving. During the event, veteran organizations reviewed their activities, discussing assistance programs and resources available to past and present service members.
Ruslan Kukharyk remarked, “Your life is already a feat. Each of your biographical stories is now a standalone chapter in the book of heroism encapsulating the valor of our fellow countrymen.” This sentiment reflects the community's recognition of the sacrifices made by military personnel, particularly as they navigate challenges related to health and social support.
Five service members also received certificates recognizing them as members of the Association of Veterans of Special Operation Forces, solidifying the support networks available to these individuals. Community discussions included dedicated services for senior veterans, ensuring their social and financial needs are addressed adequately.
Housing development is another area where the Yugorsk region has excelled. With nearly one million square meters of residential space constructed, the region ranks seventh among Russia's most actively developing areas. The housing projects primarily consist of multifamily homes, with new key handovers marking significant milestones for families across urban and rural settings. Recently, four families from the Unyugan settlement in the Oktyabrsky district received keys to their new apartments, celebrating the step toward stability and comfort.
The governor's office is optimistic about the growth and plans to continue supporting housing endeavors as part of the regional development strategy, ensuring quality living conditions for all residents.
