Yuen Long police have confirmed a crackdown on rising vehicle theft cases, conducting an operation that led to the arrest of 20 individuals and the recovery of 17 stolen vehicles. Named "Star Network," the operation revealed a notable uptick in vehicle-related crimes within the Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai districts, particularly targeting motorcycles.
Between February 7 and March 20, 2025, police observed an increasing trend in criminal activities involving vehicle thefts, prompting the initiative aimed at quelling this surge. On March 21, 2025, Wu Siting, Senior Superintendent of the Yuen Long Police District Crime Squad, reported that the sweep had successfully apprehended 20 individuals, which consisted of 19 men and 1 woman, aged between 18 and 49. Among these, seven members were identified as part of an active motorcycle theft gang within the area.
These arrests are connected to a total of 34 vehicle theft-related cases, all of which transpired in the early hours when groups specifically targeted locations devoid of CCTV surveillance. Wu noted that, The arrested individuals are involved in 34 vehicle theft cases in Yuen Long district, emphasizing the seriousness of the operation.
