Yoshie Takagi Revitalizes Leftover Mochi Recipes

Innovative ideas to transform traditional mochi dishes shared on Hirunandesu!

On January 7, 2025, Nippon Television's popular cooking show Hirunandesu! highlighted innovative recipes using leftover mochi, aiming to alleviate meal monotony. Well-known cooking expert Yoshie Takagi provided viewers with practical and delightful ways to transform the traditional dish, often favored during the New Year festivities, by introducing several new recipes.

Takagi's segment was part of the show's initiative to teach viewers how to utilize the foods left over from New Year celebrations, making the most out of ingredients typically found at home.

One of the standout features was the Dai-kon Mochi. This recipe combines grated daikon with mochi to create fluffy, zaftig dumplings, highlighted by savory sesame soy sauce. It promotes creative eating by allowing variations with cheese, bacon, or ham.

Next up was the Negima Mochi Skewers. Inspired by Korean cuisine, this recipe was introduced as a simple yet fulfilling snack or appetizer. Takagi suggested pairing the delicately grilled skewers with dipping sauces for added flavor.

The Korean-Style Negima Mochi was another recipe well-received by the viewers. Serving this dish during celebrations is customary, and Takagi emphasized using soy sauce mixed with vinegar and sesame oil to deepen the flavor profile.

Among the unique recipes shared was Aonagi Jaco Stir-Fry. Using fresh scallions and dried shrimps, this dish was described as quick to prepare and packed with flavors, pairing excellently with rice or noodles for extra sustenance.

Takagi also showcased her Mochi Pudding, which boasted the whimsical twist of turning mochi—often associated with savory dishes—into sweets. This dessert was made effortless with only a frying pan, ideal for those who love to indulge without extensive preparation.
