Yorke Calls For Pogba's Return To Manchester United

Former striker believes Pogba could revitalize United's struggling midfield this season

Manchester United has found itself under mounting pressure this season, with former striker Dwight Yorke urging the club to explore the possibility of re-signing Paul Pogba.

The struggle for manager Ruben Amorim has been evident since he took over, with the squad lacking the attacking options to effectively present challenges to their opponents. Despite the January transfer window, United's situation barely improved, leaving Amorim with fewer choices than before.

Yorke, reflecting on the dire need for reinforcements, articulated his support for bringing back Pogba, who remains without a club due to his recent doping ban. The midfielder’s previous achievements, coupled with his untapped potential, present United with what Yorke believes is an opportunity too good to overlook.

“I would give Paul Pogba a third chance, definitely, because of what United currently have and because of what we know he is capable of producing. United have struggled, and Pogba is a damn good player. I’m sure Pogba would be verykeen,” Yorke stated.

Yorke, along with notable figures like Rio Ferdinand and Louis Saha, believes Pogba’s reputation as one of the world’s top talents can lend much-needed skill to United’s midfield. He emphasized, “Even though he’s 31, I think he’s farbetter than what we have now. And if you’re going to get a player for free, who’s farbetter than all our players in midfield, then you do it.”

The Manchester United squad currently finds itself precariously positioned, sitting 15th on the Premier League table, much lower than fans and stakeholders expect from the storied club. With only two months left to salvage the season, Yorke posits Pogba could be the catalyst for improvement, stating, “With two months left, I would say, 'Let’s have a look'. Give him a contract. You’ve got time here to prove yourself. You can come and play and help us out with the situation.”

Pogba’s anticipation for returning to football is palpable; he is set to be available for competing by March following his suspension, having been sidelined since August 2023. This timeline aligns conveniently for United, who are still searching for solutions to bolster their performance under Amorim’s leadership.

Currently, Pogba stands as one of the few high-profile athletes unclaimed on the market. United's only notable acquisition during the transfer window was wing-back Patrick Dorgu, which has proven inadequate to remedy the team’s offensive woes. Amorim, who has endured frustrating results during his short tenure, must tread delicately as he navigates through the remainder of the season with limited resources.

The call for Pogba's return is indicative of the drastic measures some former players feel compelled to advocate, necessitated by the staggering 13-point lead above relegation zone they currently enjoy. Yet Yorke’s insistence is clear—without rejuvenation, the risk of failure remains vibrant.

The forward-thinking strategy proposed by Yorke and endorsed by the likes of Ferdinand and Saha mirrors the sentiments of many fans calling for effective and bold decisions to reignite the passion at Old Trafford.

While the club has traditionally been characterized by their win-at-all-cost attitude, the current reality is one of fraught survival, and the staggering expectations of fans could very well depend on Pogba’s willingness to embrace the challenge of returning to where his career sparked to life.

Yorke’s advocacy for Pogba opens the door to speculations about shifts within the sporting environment and casting light on how player movements can reflect upon club dynamics. “There’s time to get this player—a quality player—back on board,” Yorke remarked, endorsing the idea of giving Pogba shout-out to reclaim both his place and glory within the game.
