Yogyakarta’s Rally Ramadan 2025 Boosts Tourism While Celebrated With Enthusiasm

The atmosphere of Yogyakarta was electrified on Sunday, March 9, 2025, as the Rally Ramadan 2025 took off, marking another year of this unique automotive event dedicated to time-based competition and navigation. Vice Mayor of Yogyakarta, Wawan Harmawan, presented trophies to the winners at Joglo Restoran, celebrating the achievements of participants from the local area and beyond.

The Rally Ramadan 2025 is organized as part of the Protect Sport Ramadan on The Road initiative, which aims to merge the thrills of motorsport with the cultural richness of Ramadan. Wawan Harmawan emphasized the importance of this event for fostering young talent and promoting tourism within Yogyakarta. He stated, “This event not only seeks to nurture young rally talents but also significantly contributes to the development of Yogyakarta’s tourism sector. By participating, competitors not only race but also embrace the beauty of Yogyakarta.”

Looking to the future, Harmawan expressed plans to uplift the status of the event, hinting at supporting it with more resources next year and aiming to rename the award as the Mayor’s Cup. He emphasized, “We hope to attract more participants from outside the region, including national rally athletes, to boost tourism even more.” His vision reflects the eagerness of Yogyakarta to position itself as a prime destination for both motorsport enthusiasts and tourists alike.

This year’s event marked the fourth annual iteration of the Rally Ramadan, which began at the Museum Perjuangan and concluded at Joglo Restoran. Gustapriya, Head of Time Rally DIY, highlighted the allure of this year’s route and the spirit of competition among participants. “Every Ramadan, we consistently hold the Time Rally as part of the activities leading to the iftar (breaking of the fast) meal. This year, we introduced exciting challenges along the course,” he explained.

Participants embarked on designated routes based on provided clues, where misinterpretation could lead to missing necessary checkpoints or winding up at false locations. Success hinged on time accuracy and achieving the lowest penalty score at the finish line. “There are no special vehicle modifications required to participate. All types of cars, whether standard factory models or slightly modified ones, are welcome,” said Gustapriya, ensuring inclusivity among the competitors.

Meanwhile, across the archipelago, MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia, the largest household goods retailer, launched their Ramadan Insight for 2025, reflecting shopping trends for household equipment. This insight is based on data compiled during Ramadan 2024 and aims to assist shoppers preparing for the holy month. Edwin Cheah, the Managing Director of MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia, stated, “With over 18,000 products across 10 categories, MR.D.I.Y. stands out as the go-to retail destination fulfilling household needs during Ramadan.”

MR.D.I.Y. gained traction last Ramadan, with popular products among consumers including gift wrap, neck pillows, and tableware essentials, which they anticipate will continue to be hot sellers this year as well. Their promotional event, Promo Berkah Ramadan, runs from March 1 to 31, 2025, where customers spending Rp50,000 or more have the chance to win a pilgrimage.

The three most popular categories during Ramadan have been identified as Household Appliances, Gifts, and Jewelry & Cosmetics, predictable due to the various family traditions celebrated during this period. Edwin highlighted, “The unique diversity of Ramadan dishes calls for household equipment such as food containers, plates, and bowls.”

There’s also been notable anticipation around children’s toys, as families look to fill the extended ten-day Lebaran holiday from March 29 to April 7, 2025, with engaging activities for their young ones. MR.D.I.Y. has partnered with local celebrities Shireen Sungkar and Teuku Wisnu for their Ramadan campaign, aiming to create exciting shopping experiences for customers nationwide. Shireen shared her thoughts, stating, “Shopping at MR.D.I.Y. during Ramadan is always special for my family. We look for various supplies to make the atmosphere festive, including containers, mugs, bowls, and gifts for our loved ones.”

She also mentions her intention to procure children's toys this Ramadan, as festive breaks provide valuable time for families. “I choose to shop at MR.D.I.Y. not only because of their affordable prices but also due to their comprehensive product range and the convenience of their store locations.”

Combining these two events, the Rally Ramadan 2025 and the retail trends highlighted by MR.D.I.Y. Indonesia, reflects the resilience and dynamism of Indonesian society as Ramadan approaches. Such initiatives and celebrations not only reinforce local culture but also serve to boost the economy by attracting tourists and encouraging spending during this auspicious month.

With every passing year, the momentum of Rally Ramadan grows, coupling the excitement of competition with the beauty of Yogyakarta’s surroundings, enticing both participants and tourists. The commitment to supporting local tourism, enriching experiences, and fostering community engagement resonates powerfully within Yogyakarta and beyond.
