Yogscast Games has launched two new strategy titles on Steam, Border Pioneer and Stray Path, developed by Yahzj Games and chx games, respectively.
Border Pioneer challenges players to construct pixelated metropolises and defend them from external threats. Combining city-building with tower defense mechanics, it features treacherous terrains, various enemies, and unexpected dangers as players explore and expand territories. Players receive additional elements to strengthen their fortifications and continue their expansion as they conquer new areas and overcome challenges.
Stray Path offers a unique take on the roguelike genre with its card-based system. Players choose from a diverse set of adventurers, including curious cats and beast tamers, embarking on journeys through dark roads and mysterious forests. The cards reveal treasures, adversaries, and choices directly influencing the adventure's outcome, making for each playthrough to be unique with new secrets or unexpected dangers.
The collaboration between Yogscast Games and Gamersky ensures fans of card games receive special packages featuring these two new strategy titles. Available as of today on Steam, both Border Pioneer and Stray Path provide distinctly challenging experiences, blending innovative deckbuilding mechanics with engaging strategic elements.
Border Pioneer puts players as god-like entities responsible for ensuring the survival of pixelated colonies, where careful resource management and defense against frontier threats are key to maintaining the city's balance. Each month, players must decide between territorial expansion, investment in supply production, or strengthening defenses. The game mixes classic city-building and tower defense mechanics with card systems inspired by board games like Catan. Players can also unblock new buildings, units, and even acquire spells to directly attack enemies.
Stray Path immerses players in the action with its roguelike experience. Selecting from distinct characters, such as the traveling cat or the rugged beast tamer, players explore mysterious forests filled with dangers. Unlike others in the genre, Stray Path allows players to evade deadly combat through its FreeCell mechanics, which facilitate strategic card movement across the board. This dynamic opens the door to secret chests, hidden items, and escape routes, making every decision pivotal for survival.
