YFN Lucci Released From Prison After Plea Deal

Rapper expresses gratitude and plans to inspire others following early parole.

ATLANTA — Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci has been released from prison just one year after being sentenced as part of a plea deal linked to gang-related activities. YFN Lucci, whose real name is Rayshawn Bennett, was sentenced to 20 years, with 10 years to serve and the remaining 10 on probation. This release marks a significant moment after he pleaded guilty to one count of violating Georgia’s Street Gang and Terrorism Prevention Act.

The Georgia Department of Corrections confirmed Lucci’s release early Friday morning. Reports indicate he was granted parole based on the time he had already served, which amounted to nearly three years at the time of his sentencing.

“I’ve learned a lot during my time away,” YFN Lucci said. “I’m incredibly grateful for my family and friends who have stood by me the whole time. Now, it’s my turn to give back. I want to use my voice, my platform, and my music to inspire those who look up to me. I want to show people it’s never too late to make a change. For me, this time is about growth, redemption, and purpose. I’m excited—there’s so much more to come.”

The rapper's legal troubles began with his 2021 arrest as part of a major indictment involving 12 individuals linked to alleged activities of the Bloods gang. The indictment was extensive and detailed various crimes purportedly committed by the group to bolster their reputation and influence over territories within Atlanta.

Initially facing serious charges, including felony murder, prosecutors accused Lucci of being behind the wheel during a drive-by shooting where his friend James Adams was killed. The charges stemming from this tragic event were later dropped as part of the favorable plea agreement.

The plea deal allowed for the dropping of 12 of the 13 charges against him, enabling Lucci to secure his release sooner. His defense team emphasized the importance of differentiative treatment of Lucci's artistry from the allegations of gang involvement, arguing his music should not define or determine his legal standing.

Conditions of Lucci’s parole include living with his mother, undergoing drug assessments, having no contact with any gang members or co-defendants associated with his case, and adhering to restrictions against possessing weapons. He is also required to notify his parole officer before leaving the state.

“Rayshawn Bennett, widely known as YFN Lucci, was granted early release on parole and walked out of prison this morning to dozens of waiting friends and family,” his attorneys stated. “He is overjoyed to reunite with his children, his family, and his music. He will waste no time releasing new music and getting back on stage to perform for his fans.”

Bennett’s label, Think It’s A Game Records, celebrated his release with statements highlighting the significance of the event for both the artist and his supporters. Girvan “Fly” Henry, the CEO of the label, expressed unwavering support for Bennett’s future endeavors. "We’ve always believed in him, and we continue to stand by him as he moves forward on his path,” Henry stated.

Lucci’s release has captivated attention within the hip-hop community, especially considering the backdrop of other high-profile cases connected to gang-related activities, including those involving fellow rapper Young Thug. The complex and lengthy cases surrounding these artists have raised questions about the intertwining of music, art, and criminal allegations.

Since his arrest, YFN Lucci has remained committed to his music career, with plans to return to the stage and release new tracks. He is known for his popular songs such as “Everyday We Lit” and “Key to the Streets.” His return is anticipated both by fans and industry insiders alike.

With positive outlooks from his legal team and peers, YFN Lucci's story is one of challenge and potential. His move to use his experiences and newfound freedom to inspire others reflects resilience and the human capacity for change.

While Lucci is ready to embrace this new chapter of his life post-incarceration, the legal ramifications of his past may still linger. Nonetheless, the focus right now is on his triumphant return, both artistically and personally, as many look forward to what’s next for the rapper now out of prison.
