Yari Carrisi Reflects On Sister Ylenia's Disappearance

On Verissimo, Yari shares memories and hopes regarding his missing sister Ylenia

Yari Carrisi Power, the son of famous Italian singers Al Bano and Romina Power, opened up about his family’s struggles during an emotional appearance on the Italian talk show Verissimo on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The discussion centered around the mysterious disappearance of his sister, Ylenia Carrisi, who vanished on January 5, 1994, an event that has profoundly affected the family.

During the show, hosted by Silvia Toffanin, Yari reflected on his close relationship with Ylenia before her disappearance. "We had incredible travels together, and she instilled in me a strong passion for exploration," he shared. For many years, he held onto the belief that Ylenia was simply traveling the world, but as time passed, he began to accept the painful reality of her absence.

Yari recounted a poignant anecdote that illustrates the depth of his feelings regarding his sister. A friend had sent him a photo of a painting displayed in a small museum that bore a striking resemblance to Ylenia. Intrigued, Yari traveled to see it, only to discover that the painting had been created in the 1960s. "That day, I searched everywhere for her; I went to the spot where they said a girl had jumped into the river," he recalled. This search was not just physical but deeply emotional, as he later listened to a song that felt as if Ylenia was speaking to him, apologizing for the chaos her disappearance had caused.

The impact of Ylenia's disappearance has left an indelible mark on the Carrisi family. Yari noted, "After her disappearance, life changed for everyone. My mom, understandably, still searches for her; she could really be out there, maybe she will return someday." Romina Power continues to hold onto hope, believing that Ylenia, being adventurous, might have found a way to survive and live independently.

In a surprising turn, Yari mentioned his father Al Bano's belief that Ylenia would return if he and Romina separated. "He sometimes says things that would require a psychologist to understand," Yari said with a smile, expressing skepticism about his father's claims. "I don’t believe it would have gone that way. I’ve managed to move forward by continuing what she started—music and art. That’s how I keep her memory alive."

Yari's journey has not only been about coping with loss but also about personal growth. He revealed that he has traveled extensively, starting his adventures at just one month old. "I’ve traveled a lot throughout my life; my first trip was at one month, and I never stopped after that," he said. His quest for balance took him to India, where he spent time rediscovering himself and finding peace away from the public eye.

His relationship with his parents has been complex. Yari described his family dynamic, stating, "We’ve always lived somewhat as friends because we traveled and toured together. However, when Mom and Dad separated, different dynamics emerged. I became a bit like the older brother, almost a parent to them. It would have been much simpler if they had never separated, especially since it was hard to be in the middle of two personalities like theirs."

Yari Carrisi also shared his experiences living in New York, where he was neighbors with renowned poet Allen Ginsberg. This connection to the literary world was serendipitous, as Yari had been invited to a concert by Sean Lennon and Yoko Ono in Boston, which ultimately led him to move to New York. He described the vibrant atmosphere of his new home, filled with iconic figures like Johnny Depp, Paul McCartney, and Bono, whom he would encounter in his apartment building. "I was very shy; I didn’t know how to approach them," he admitted.

Despite his celebrity lineage, Yari expressed a desire to keep his personal life private, especially when it comes to love. "One thing I’ve learned is that it’s better to keep love private. At the right moment, I’ll tell you everything," he teased, hinting at a romantic interest without revealing too much.

As Yari Carrisi continues to navigate the complexities of his life and family history, he remains committed to honoring his sister’s memory through his art and music. His heartfelt reflections on Ylenia’s disappearance reveal not only the pain of loss but also the enduring hope that one day, her story may find resolution.
