Yandex Maps Transforms Navigation For Turkey's Travelers

Comprehensive updates introduce thematic collections and detailed street views for seamless exploration of Turkish cities.

Yandex has unveiled significant updates to its mapping service, aimed at enhancing the travel experience for residents and visitors alike across Turkey's key cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Antalya. The updates, announced recently, reflect Yandex's commitment to providing comprehensive and user-friendly navigation tools for its many users.

Among the standout features of the updated Yandex Maps are various thematic collections. These curated lists allow users to explore and plan their trips more efficiently. With over 32 themed collections available for popular destinations, users can easily find recommendations for restaurants, museums, and local delicacies such as kebabs and Turkish coffee. It’s as if the city has been digitally reimagined for users to discover through simply scrolling their screens.

To assist travelers even more, Yandex Maps has also rolled out substantial advancements to its street view feature. Now, the app boasts new images spanning over 16,000 kilometers of roads and urban infrastructure. This means not only can users explore famous landmarks virtually but they can also familiarize themselves with their routes and local environments before setting foot outside. Such innovations effectively allow for armchair travel as users can plan their ways around cities, checking out entrances to buildings and assessing street layouts first-hand.

Moving beyond just visuals, the updated Yandex Maps have made large strides in public transport navigation as well. Users now have access to detailed information on over 51,000 bus stops, encompassing more than 2000 public transport routes across Turkey, including maritime ferry options available between Istanbul and Izmir. This considerable enhancement assures travelers can navigate with the utmost efficiency, avoiding the hassles often associated with unfamiliar transport systems.

Shopping enthusiasts will also find value in the updated app, as Yandex Maps now includes detailed floor plans for 110 shopping centers across major cities, as well as at the five largest airports—those located in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, and Antalya. These floor plans facilitate easier navigation within these complexes, helping users to quickly locate specific stores, escalators, or gates at airports.

For those who prefer traveling by car, Yandex has also mapped over 500,000 parking spots and drop-off points near tourist attractions, ensuring users can find appropriate parking options without hassle. For example, at Istanbul's main airport, travelers can select from ten convenient drop-off points, making it easier to navigate directly to their desired location.

“The map now shows paths considering over 2000 public transport routes, including options on ferries for transportation between Istanbul and Izmir,” Yandex noted, demonstrating their focus on improving comprehensive navigational services for all transport mediums.

Not only are the maps filled with suggestions for landmarks and popular spots, but Yandex has also updated information about 44,000 kilometers of roads within Istanbul itself, providing details such as traffic light placements and speed limits. This ensures the app gives accurate travel routes and timely navigation assistance, checking all boxes for the modern traveler.

Yandex Maps stands as not just a navigation tool but as a personal guide to experiencing the richness of Turkey's culture and landmarks, allowing users to explore both familiar and unfamiliar territories with comfort. Whether accessing local transport schedules or selecting optimal routes for driving through busy city streets, its updates offer travelers and citizens alike invaluable resources for their journeys.

With approximately 90 million monthly users utilizing either the web version or mobile app, the enhancements made by Yandex serve to secure its role as one of Turkey's indispensable tools for exploration. This commitment to optimizing the user experience mirrors the fast-paced evolution of technology and its applications within the travel industry.
