Winnipeg Jets Reach 100 Points With Overtime Victory

The Jets secure a dramatic 4-3 win over the Oilers, showcasing resilience amid injury challenges.

The Winnipeg Jets clinched a significant milestone on March 20, 2025, as they became the second team of the NHL season to reach 100 points, achieving this through a nail-biting 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in overtime at Rogers Place.

Kyle Connor was the hero for the Jets, scoring the game-winning goal just 1:13 into the extra period. This achievement marked a historic moment, as Connor became the first player in franchise history to secure 60 game-winning goals. In addition to Connor's heroics, Cole Perfetti, Josh Morrissey, and Brandon Tanev also found the back of the net for the Jets, who now boast an impressive 9-3 record in overtime games this season.

The Oilers faced significant adversity during the match, starting without star player Leon Draisaitl and suffering a further blow when Connor McDavid, known for his outstanding performances, was sidelined with a lower-body injury in the third period. Despite these setbacks, the Oilers put forth a valiant effort.

Josh Morrissey, vital to the Jets' success, showcased his talent by tying the game at 2-2 in the second period, scoring his 11th goal of the season after executing a fast-paced rush initiated by Nino Niederreiter. However, the game was also marked by resilience shown by the Oilers, as they earned a critical point in the Pacific Division standings.

Darnell Nurse of the Oilers highlighted the team’s effort, stating, “I think we played really well. There were obviously challenges throughout the game, whether that was losing guys and a few PKs there at the end, but I think that our team battled hard and found a way to get a point.”

Edmonton's Jeff Skinner contributed significantly, netting two goals, his 12th and 13th of the season, before the game reached a frantic conclusion. With the score tied 3-3 thanks to Zach Hyman's equalizer, who scored his 25th goal of the campaign, emotions ran high as both teams fought fiercely for dominance.

The pivotal moment came in overtime, where Kyle Connor’s decisive wrist shot sealed the deal for the Jets, thus ending Edmonton's three-game winning streak. This second-place finish in the Pacific Division presents the Jets with a solid opportunity as they prepare to host the Seattle Kraken on March 22,2025.

Looking ahead, the Jets will return home to kick off a four-game homestand on March 23, 2025, against the Buffalo Sabres, hoping to build on their current momentum.
