Cuban actor William Levy was arrested on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Broward County, Florida, where he currently resides with his son. According to a detention report shared by Despierta América, the star known for telenovelas such as Sortilegio and Café con aroma de mujer was apprehended on charges of intoxication and public disorder, as well as another for allegedly trespassing on private property.
The arrest took place during the night, and as of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Levy remained in the main Broward County jail, located north of Miami, according to EFE news agency. Communicator Alex Rodríguez explained that the 44-year-old actor is awaiting trial.
In the wake of the shock surrounding his arrest, journalist Mandy Fridman revealed that Levy resisted arrest at the time he was being secured by U.S. officers. "According to people who were present at the time of the arrest, William allegedly resisted, which led the police to have to pressure him to handcuff him," she reported.
Additionally, Fridman detailed Levy's current status: "William is still detained, waiting to see the on-duty judge, to formalize the detention and set the bail amount, as he does not yet have the right to it." This is not the first time Levy has faced authorities in the U.S.; just last year, following the confirmation of his separation from Elizabeth Gutiérrez, videos surfaced showing police presence at his home after a reported altercation, with the actress accusing Levy of violent behavior.
As of the time of this report, neither Elizabeth Gutiérrez nor their children have publicly commented on the actor's detention. Levy was arrested in Weston, a neighboring town, and taken to the main Broward County jail in Fort Lauderdale, approximately 45 kilometers north of Miami.
Florida laws establish a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail for disturbing public order after drinking alcohol, while trespassing could lead to up to one year in prison. Both charges are considered misdemeanors.
This incident follows a series of previous episodes linked to domestic conflicts with his ex-partner, actress Elizabeth Gutiérrez. Police were called to their shared residence in Southwest Ranches near Fort Lauderdale at least four times. In one incident in April 2024, Gutiérrez reported that Levy pushed their daughter during a discussion. Body camera footage recorded the tense exchange.
William Gutiérrez Levy was born in Cojimar, Cuba, and moved to the United States at age 16. The Cuban-American actor starred in telenovelas in Mexico, such as Cuidado con el ángel and Sortilegio. In recent years, he has starred in series like Café con aroma de mujer (Telemundo/Netflix) and Montecristo (VIX), the latter produced and filmed in Spain. Last year, he filmed the series Arcadia, which he stars in alongside Spanish actress Paula Echevarría, expected to premiere this year.
Currently, Levy's representatives have not offered public statements regarding the arrest. Javier Ceriani, a journalist and television personality based in Miami, stated that Levy would not have the right to bail due to substances found in his body. However, during a trial shared live on Ceriani's YouTube program, it was revealed that the actor had to pay $250 to be released.
The details surrounding Levy's arrest have raised eyebrows, especially given his tumultuous relationship history. In October 2023, police responded to his home following a loud argument between him and Gutiérrez. The altercation was reportedly triggered after a night of drinking, leading Gutiérrez to confront Levy about his behavior. Despite the heated exchange, no physical confrontation was reported.
In January 2024, Gutiérrez reportedly sought refuge from an aggressive Levy, who allegedly arrived at the residence with an erratic demeanor and even carried a weapon. Gutiérrez informed authorities that Levy was under the influence of alcohol and exhibited jealousy over supposed infidelities on her part. Later, Levy denied these allegations, asserting that he would never endanger his family's safety.
On March 2, 2024, Gutiérrez, accompanied by their daughter Kailey, 14, and two visiting nieces, went to the family residence. A conflict arose after Gutiérrez's arrival. Kailey attempted to enter her father's bedroom after hearing voices from a woman, leading to an unfortunate encounter with Levy. The actor claimed he acted to prevent his daughter and nieces from entering the room, denying any harmful actions. He explained to People en Español: "After a month and a half of being out of the house, Elizabeth, Kailey, and the cousins come to the house, saying I have a woman inside. They break the door to see if anyone is inside. If I had been with someone, I was living alone. It's my house; I was alone. Kailey breaks the door; I don't know what's happening. I don't push her; I put my hand to prevent her from passing."
As the community grapples with the news of Levy's arrest, it remains to be seen how this incident will affect his career and personal life moving forward. The actor's legal troubles and personal challenges have become a focal point for media coverage, raising questions about the impact of fame on personal relationships and behavior.
