William Hofvander, the promising forward from Stockholm, has joined AIK, marking his transition from Umeå FC after two successful seasons. The announcement was made on Saturday morning, with the club expressing excitement over their first signing of the season.
“It feels indescribable. When I learned AIK was interested, there was no question about it. I see this as a great challenge and I’m really excited to get started,” Hofvander stated in the press release.
Hofvander, who previously played for Hammarby TFF, has had remarkable success at Umeå FC. Last season, he scored 15 goals and provided seven assists, playing a pivotal role in Umeå FC’s promotion to Superettan.
AIK’s sporting director Thomas Berntsen commented on the signing, saying, “William is coming from a fantastic season at Umeå FC and has proven after his transfer there to have grown as a football player. He is a forward who possesses great physicality and goal-scoring abilities which we look forward to developing within our environment.”
After two seasons with Umeå FC, Hofvander reflects positively on his time there. “When I arrived at Umeå, I didn’t know much about this beautiful city. I have come to know Umeå as a pleasant and open city with nice people and strong community ties,” Hofvander shared.
He continued, “Umeå FC is a club I’m proud to have represented. Both the club and my teammates are something I will carry with me moving forward in my career! There are many fun memories from my time at Umeå, but the highlight is undoubtedly our advancement to Superettan with a team and club deserving to be there. I’m proud and happy about reaching our goal! Huge thanks for two unforgettable years, and I will keep following the team during the upcoming season!”
Adam Chennoufi, Umeå FC's director, acknowledged Hofvander's contributions, saying, “Hoffa was certainly high on our priority list when it came to contract extensions, but we were early on aware it would be difficult. He had quite the exciting run with us, from being deprioritized at Hammarby to coming to Umeå FC, where he grew both as a person and as a football player, significantly contributing to our advancement to Superettan.”
Chennoufi added, “That he is now moving to one of Sweden’s biggest clubs is strong proof of the high-quality and developmental operations we are running. We wish Hoffa the best of luck in his continued football career.”
This transfer not only highlights William Hofvander’s development as one of the rising talents of Swedish football but also emphasizes Umeå FC's commitment to nurturing talent capable of competing at high levels.
