Westlife Announces New Music And Tour Without Mark Feehily

Westlife prepares 25th anniversary celebrations with new music and live shows while Mark Feehily focuses on his health recovery

Westlife, the iconic Irish boyband that has captured hearts worldwide for a quarter of a century, is gearing up to celebrate a remarkable milestone: their 25th anniversary. Fans can look forward to a fresh wave of excitement with new music, an upcoming album, and special live shows. Yet, amid the jubilation, there’s a bittersweet note as one beloved member, Mark Feehily, will not be joining his bandmates in the celebrations due to ongoing health challenges.

Mark’s absence marks a poignant moment for the group and their global fanbase. The band’s journey began on February 9, 2001, when they kicked off their first-ever world tour at the Newcastle Arena. Who could have imagined then that 25 years later, Westlife would still be a household name, with a loyal following spanning generations? “We could only have dreamt of the continued love and loyalty you have consistently shown us around the world,” the band expressed in a heartfelt statement, underscoring the deep connection they share with their fans.

The trio of Kian Egan, Shane Filan, and Nicky Byrne will carry the torch this time around, determined to make the 25th anniversary celebrations unforgettable. “We have so many exciting plans to share with you very soon which will include new music, an album, special shows and many, many more surprises along the way,” the band announced, promising a year filled with memorable moments and fresh sounds.

However, the spotlight inevitably turns to Mark Feehily’s health journey, which has kept him away from the stage since early 2024. His decision to step back from Westlife was a difficult but necessary one. In February 2024, Mark revealed that he had been battling the lingering aftereffects of sepsis, a severe and potentially fatal infection. His ordeal began three and a half years earlier, in August 2020, following surgery that led to excruciating pain and an emergency hospital admission.

Mark’s time in intensive care was harrowing. The singer spent several months in the hospital, fighting for his life amid the isolating conditions imposed by the global pandemic. “It was physically and mentally difficult,” he recalled, describing the trauma of being separated from his fiancé Cailean and their then-ten-month-old daughter Layla during his critical illness. Though discharged in December 2020, Mark’s health struggles were far from over.

In 2021, he contracted pneumonia, forcing him to miss numerous concerts during Westlife’s Wild Dreams tour. His battle continued with multiple surgeries, the most recent being his fourth, underscoring the severity of his condition. “It is with the utmost level of regret that I must now temporarily stand down from all Westlife touring until a time that I have had the chance to fully recover from the turbulent journey I have been through as an individual,” Mark shared candidly with fans, emphasizing that his recovery remains his “absolute priority at this time.”

The band’s statement expressed their support and understanding for Mark’s situation. “Sadly, Mark will be unable to join the celebrations. We hope he can join us back on stage when he is ready and able. He sends his love and positivity to you all as always,” they conveyed, highlighting the close bond that remains despite his absence.

Mark himself conveyed his devastation at missing out on the milestone celebrations. “I’m devastated that I won’t be there to celebrate the upcoming concerts with fans and the three lads,” he admitted, underscoring the emotional toll of his health setbacks. Yet, his message was also one of hope and reassurance: “But for now, I have to make the right decision for my health and wellbeing, for my family, and for myself as a person. Please don’t worry!”

Westlife’s fans have rallied around Mark, sending messages of support and well-wishes for his recovery. Meanwhile, Kian, Shane, and Nicky are determined to honor the band’s legacy and the fans’ unwavering loyalty by delivering a celebration worthy of 25 years of music, friendship, and memories.

As the band embarks on this new chapter, they reflect on their extraordinary journey from humble beginnings to global stardom. The 25th anniversary is more than a milestone; it’s a testament to the enduring power of their music and the special connection they’ve forged with millions around the world.

While Mark’s voice may be absent from the upcoming tours and new releases, his spirit remains an integral part of Westlife’s story. Fans and bandmates alike look forward to the day he can return to the stage, healthier and stronger, to once again sing alongside his brothers.

In the meantime, the celebrations will continue, promising new music and unforgettable live experiences that celebrate a legacy built on harmony, heart, and resilience. Westlife’s 25th anniversary is set to be a landmark moment in pop music, reminding us all why this Irish boyband has stood the test of time.
