Across Malaga province, changes are underway for the traditional Three Kings' Day parades, set for January 5, 2025, as weather forecasts predict heavy rain. Municipalities are taking proactive measures to safeguard the event's integrity, moving celebrations to January 4 to avoid the adverse conditions.
The decision to advance the parades follows discussions among various city officials and community representatives. For the first time, Villanueva de la Serena has decided to make this change, with Mayor Ana Belén Fernández stating the goal was to maintain safety and the festive spirit for families and children.
The city's parade will commence at the scheduled time of 6:30 PM, proceeding along the established route, which includes Avenida de Hernán Cortés and wraps up at Plaza de España. Thousands are expected to gather to welcome the Three Kings, allowing both children and adults to enjoy this magical event.
Other municipalities, including Marbella and Torremolinos, have also confirmed their adjustments. The new dynamic sees towns across the province re-evaluates their schedules based on the risks indicated by the Aemet (the state meteorological agency). They reported rain commencing the evening of January 5 with over 90% probability.
Some towns have opted for earlier start times for their processions. For example, Alhaurín de la Torre will commence its parade at 11:00 AM instead of the originally planned afternoon timing. Residents should expect road closures and alternative routes as parade mechanics disrupt normal traffic flows from early morning.
Many parades are slated to take place throughout the day on January 4, offering similar pomp and exuberance as traditional Three Kings' Day festivities. Cities like Rincón de la Victoria, Cártama, and Torrox are aligning their schedules to create festive family environments.
Officials stress the importance of upholding the integrity and charm of these cultural events. Local authorities, including the mayors and various community groups, are prioritizing effective communication with the public to share timely updates on transport changes due to parade routes.
Among the events planned, Cártama’s procession will kick off at 1:30 PM from Calle Mercado, concluding at the Ciudad Deportiva Pavilion by 9:00 PM. Meanwhile, Torremolinos has confirmed its parade will roll out at 5:00 PM from multiple city roads.
Benalmádena will also greet the Kings with festivities beginning at 10:30 AM at the Puerto Deportivo, with the official parade commencing at noon, promising 14 floats and countless sweets for eager children.
These measures are being put in place to mitigate the impact of anticipated rainfall on festivities across the region. With many towns embracing the same theme of joyful, secure celebrations before adverse weather sets in, organizers have confirmed various events will continue as planned, albeit on the new date with appropriate safeguards.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local government resources or municipal social media channels for the latest updates, particularly relating to future weather risks on the celebrated day. This shift not only preserves the spirit of Three Kings' Day but also ensures safety and joy capture the essence of the occasion.
