Weather Alert: Rain And Heatwave Expected Across India

April brings mixed weather patterns, with rain in some regions and rising temperatures in others.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued its latest weather forecast for April 3, 2025, signaling significant changes across various regions of North India. While some areas are bracing for light to moderate rainfall, others are likely to experience a rise in temperatures, particularly as the month progresses.

In the northern states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, the IMD predicts light rain within the next 24 hours. In fact, Delhi is expected to see a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, a notable increase compared to previous days. Meanwhile, western Uttar Pradesh and Haryana may experience cloudy skies accompanied by light showers. Additionally, hilly regions like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand could see snowfall in higher altitudes, which may lead to a drop in temperatures.

As temperatures rise in South India, states such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh are likely to feel the heat, with hot winds expected to sweep through these areas. The IMD has also issued a heavy rain alert for parts of Northeast India, particularly Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, where downpours are anticipated.

Farmers have been advised to monitor weather conditions closely and adjust their agricultural activities accordingly. The IMD has cautioned residents to take precautions against the rising heat, especially as temperatures in some regions are expected to soar above 40 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.

The changing weather patterns have already begun to manifest in various states. In Madhya Pradesh, for instance, forecasters predict rain in districts including Narmadapuram, Indore, Jabalpur, and Bhopal on April 3. Following this, skies are expected to clear, leading to a subsequent increase in temperatures.

Uttar Pradesh is currently facing a heatwave, with temperatures gradually climbing. The minimum temperature recorded in Lucknow is 16.7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum is expected to reach 36.7 degrees Celsius. Light rain is also forecasted for both parts of the state on April 3, with clearer skies anticipated on April 4. This pattern of clear weather is likely to continue through April 5 and 6.

In Rajasthan, the weather department has indicated that cloudy conditions may provide some relief from the heat. The eastern and southeastern parts of the state are expected to see clouds due to the influence of a western disturbance, with light rain and possible thunderstorms forecasted in areas such as Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Kota.

As the month of April progresses, the IMD has warned that severe heat could return, with temperatures potentially reaching levels typically seen in June. However, after a brief respite from the heat in late March, the last few days have brought some cooler weather.

Weather experts have noted that the upcoming days may see a mix of weather disturbances in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with temperatures on the rise but occasional rainfall providing some relief. The IMD has also pointed out that strong winds may blow across eastern and western Uttar Pradesh, which could help moderate the heat somewhat.

In Delhi, the weather has shifted towards warmer conditions following a brief spell of cool winds. The forecast suggests that the maximum temperature could rise further, prompting residents to rely more on air conditioning and coolers to cope with the heat. The air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 201, categorizing it as 'poor', which adds another layer of concern for residents as temperatures rise.

Looking ahead, the IMD anticipates that pre-monsoon activities could begin in the latter half of April, potentially bringing dust storms, thunderstorms, and even hailstorms. This could provide much-needed relief from the sweltering heat, especially in states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh, where rainfall is also expected.

In summary, the weather across North India is undergoing significant changes as April unfolds. With a mix of rain, rising temperatures, and potential heatwaves, residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for the shifting conditions. The IMD continues to monitor these developments closely, providing timely updates to help the public navigate the weather challenges ahead.
