The WDR 2 Weihnachtswunder charity event is back and set to take place from December 14 to 18, 2024, at the scenic Domplatz (Cathedral Square) in Paderborn, Germany. This much-anticipated event is aimed at raising funds to combat hunger globally, inviting communities to come together for this noble cause.
Kicking off live on December 14 at 10 AM, the event will feature popular WDR moderators Sabine Heinrich, Steffi Neu, Thomas Bug, and Jan Malte Andresen. Together, they will anchor the live broadcast from the glimmering Glashaus studio located right on the Domplatz. The public is encouraged to attend both to donate and to watch the live shows, which will include various performances and guest appearances.
This year, fans will have the opportunity to make music requests and donate to support humanitarian efforts against hunger. The event is part of the larger WDR initiative “DER WESTEN HILFT,” which has successfully raised around 22 million euros over the past two years, significantly contributing to various global food relief efforts.
Inspired by the previous iterations of the Weihnachtswunder, this year’s event aims even higher. A notable highlight will be the performance by popular singer Isaak, who represented Germany at Eurovision, captivating the audience with his music for charity.
According to reports from WDR, the event aims to extend its reach not just internationally but also locally. This year, it will also focus on supporting local hunger relief initiatives through cooperation with “Tafel Nordrhein-Westfalen e.V.,” enhancing its positive impact within the state.
The organizers stress how even the smallest contributions can make significant changes, reiteratively highlighting, "Dass jeder noch so kleine Spendenbeitrag hilft und die Menschen im Westen zusammenrücken, wenn es darauf ankommt." (That every small donation can help, and people in the West come together when it matters.) This sentiment captures the essence of communal support which the Christmas season embodies.
If you’re unable to attend the event personally, you can still engage and contribute by tuning in via radio or through the WDR 2 streaming options. Donations will be collected not only during live performances but can also be made via the WDR 2 App.
This Christmas, let’s unite under the spirit of generosity and support those in need both globally and locally. Join the WDR 2 team from December 14 to December 18 at Domplatz for the Weihnachtswunder and be part of something truly special.
Set your remotes and prepare your festive spirit. Together, with the citizens of Paderborn and beyond, we can help fight hunger and bring joy this holiday season!
