Wawa Issues Urgent Tumbler Recall After Injury Reports

Over 60,000 tumblers declared unsafe due to laceration hazards from metal straws

Wawa fans, it’s time to check your kitchen drawers! A recall has been announced for over 60,000 tumblers sold at Wawa convenience stores across nine states due to serious safety concerns. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) flagged these tumblers for causing laceration hazards, leading Wawa to issue this urgent recall.

The tumblers involved are 24-ounce reusable mugs prominently displaying the Wawa logo. They came in four vibrant styles: "The Mermaid" (a pink and green mix), "Island Surf" (in blue and yellow), "Sailor Breeze" (tan and orange), and "The Galaxy" (blue and pink). All models feature a tan lid and come with metal straws, which are at the center of this troubling recall.

Reports indicate at least four incidents where consumers suffered cuts to their mouths and fingers after accidentally mishandling the metal straws. This alarming news prompted the Wawa chain to take action, urging customers to stop using the affected tumblers immediately.

These tumblers were sold for around $12.99 starting August 2024, and they made their way to Wawa locations across Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

If you find one of these tumblers lurking at home, it’s not just about tossing it aside. Wawa has partnered with Halo Branded Solutions, the manufacturer, to facilitate the recall process. You can contact Halo toll-free at 855-425-6266 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, for instructions on how to proceed.

Consumers have several options: You can return the tumbler and metal straw to receive either a replacement silicone straw or opt for the alternative of returning everything for a $15 gift card. Just be aware, don’t take the items back to Wawa stores—they have to go back to Halo.

It's worth noting, if you or someone you know has sustained injuries due to these tumblers, it's imperative to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

This is not the first time products have faced recalls for safety issues, and as consumers, it’s always wise to keep updated on any potential hazards associated with products we regularly use. Wawa’s proactive steps help safeguard their customers from avoidable accidents, but being vigilant about product recalls adds another layer of safety.

For those with culinary tendencies or creating keepsakes from your Wawa memories, this recall serves as a stern reminder about product safety and design concerns. Mugs and tumblers are not just drinking vessels; they should also be safe to use without fear of injury during casual enjoyment.

While enjoying your day on the go—especially if it includes your favorite Wawa drink—be sure to stay informed about the products you use daily. This recent event stands as a stark reminder to everyone about the careful balance of functionality and safety. Grab your phone and check those cabinets—your safety might depend on it!

Beyond the tumbler recall, Wawa continues to be a staple for many, serving everything from sandwiches to coffee, showcasing its commitment to quality service. But how quality translates to safety is now at the forefront of consumer consciousness following this incident. Let's hope others take note to avoid such situations arising through their product lines as well.
