Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers are gearing up for a wave of exciting new launches over the next few years, with some of the most notable entries coming from renowned brands like Mercedes-Benz, Jaecoo, Exeed, and ZhiMi. These developments reflect the growing demand for electric vehicles (EVs) as the automotive industry continues to shift toward greener technologies.
Mercedes-Benz is making headlines with its ambitious plans. By 2027, the luxury automaker will introduce numerous new models, marking its strongest product and technology offensive to date. The all-new pure electric long-wheelbase CLA is scheduled to hit the market this year, just in time to celebrate China’s 20 years of local production and research and development. Following closely, the long-wheelbase GLE SUV will be produced locally by Beijing Benz starting mid-2026, alongside upcoming vehicles developed on the VAN.EA platform from Fujian Benz.
On top of this, the Mercedes-AMG division plans to roll out new high-performance hybrid V8 models starting from 2026, as well as performance EVs based on the AMG.EA platform. Adding to the excitement, 2027 will see the debut of seven brand-new models exclusive to China, spanning multiple market segments and drivetrains. The G-Class, known for its ruggedness, will also welcome new, more compact versions. A lineup of all-new pure electric versions of popular models like the GLC SUV, C-Class sedan, and E-Class sedan are also on the horizon. These developments aim to demonstrate Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to providing innovative designs and localized smart technologies.
Similarly, Jaecoo is not to be overlooked. Reports indicate the Jaecoo J5 EV made its debut at the 2025 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) and is slated for local release later this year. Pre-orders are already being accepted, with deposits ranging from 5 to 10 million Indonesian rupiahs. Jaecoo showcased another vehicle, the J7, which caters to various drive types with options for plug-in hybrid systems as well as all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive configurations.
Exeed is also pushing forward with their plans. Huang Zaogen, the General Manager of Exeed’s marketing center, recently announced via Weibo the impending launch of the Star Era ET model in Norway and Finland, with preparations well underway for its introduction, targeted for March or April. This model features design elements such as a split headlight setup and distinctive branding, including the replacement of the EXEED label with EXLANTIX for its overseas version. The ET will offer various powertrain options, including both pure electric and range-extended versions.
Lastly, ZhiMi is set to officially launch its new LS6 model on February 26. The company is currently promoting various schemes to encourage sales, including significant discounts on final payments and attractive financing options for buyers. Expected to improve upon the existing LS6's specifications, this model could very well stir interest among consumers at the start of the year.
The push for electrification among Chinese automakers reflects broader trends within the global automotive market, as manufacturers adapt to increasing regulatory pressures and shifting consumer preferences. With more localized production and tailor-made technologies being developed, these upcoming launches not only signal the growth of the EV market but also the resilience of the automotive industry amid challenging economic conditions.
Overall, the next few years promise to bring significant changes to the electric vehicle segment, particularly as brands like Mercedes-Benz, Jaecoo, Exeed, and ZhiMi continue to innovate and expand their offerings. With their eye on the future, these companies are positioning themselves to meet the increasing demand for sustainable transportation options.
