Washington Pavilion And Richmond Unveil Exciting Broadway Seasons

The upcoming seasons promise popular hits and Virginia premieres for theatergoers to enjoy.

The Washington Pavilion has unveiled its exciting lineup for the next season of its Pavilion Performance Series, bringing six sensational Broadway hits to Sioux Falls.

Leading the pack is the highly anticipated “Back to the Future,” set to launch the season from October 14 to October 19, 2025, with eight performances. Based on the beloved 1985 film, the musical promises to whisk audiences away on time-traveling adventures featuring iconic characters including Marty McFly and Doc Brown.

Just in time for the holiday season, audiences can look forward to “Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical,” which will delight families from December 23 to December 27, 2025. This heartwarming tale offers musical fun and festive cheer for audiences of all ages.

The comedy classic “Mrs. Doubtfire” follows shortly, taking the stage from January 30 to February 1, 2026. Fans of the original film can expect a hearty mix of laughter and warm family moments as it brings the story of the devoted father, played by Robin Williams, to life with music and humor.

“Moulin Rouge!” will grace the Pavilion from February 24 to March 1, 2026. This musical adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s famed film is guaranteed to dazzle with its vibrant score, stunning visuals, and compelling romance, all set against the backdrop of Parisian nightlife.

The classic mystery comedy “Clue,” inspired by the iconic 1985 movie and the Hasbro board game, will arrive from March 27 to March 29, 2026. The humorous whodunit scenario is expected to have audiences guessing and laughing along the way.

Finally, the season will conclude with Meredith Willson’s cherished “The Music Man,” which will run from April 30 to May 2, 2026. This classic tells the story of con man Harold Hill, who attempts to swindle the unsuspecting townsfolk of River City, Iowa by promising to start a marching band, only to find his heart caught up along the way.

“From plutonium-powered DeLorean time machines to passionate love stories and crazy housekeepers, this Broadway series has it all,” said Kerri DeGraff, chief operating officer for Washington Pavilion Management Inc. “Our Washington Pavilion is certainly on the Broadway map as we will host three weeklong shows this season, and we know Sioux Falls will embrace these spectacular titles.”

Current subscribers can renew or upgrade their seats now, and new subscribers can secure their place on the priority seating list for the Pavilion Performance Series. Single tickets for individual shows will be made available this summer, enticing theater enthusiasts across the region to enjoy these theatrical marvels.

Meanwhile, Richmond also prepares for its own treat, as Broadway in Richmond announces its upcoming productions for the 2025-2026 season at the Altria Theater. The season highlights several Virginia premieres of Broadway’s hottest shows.

Opening the season from November 4 to November 9, 2025, is the Tony Award-winning “Kimberly Akimbo,” which follows the life of Kimberly, who is aged 16 but suffers from a rare genetic disorder causing her to age rapidly. Described as both hilarious and heartfelt, this musical presents the struggles of growing up with additional familial complications.

On January 20-25, 2026, the audience will witness “Back to the Future: The Musical,” directly adapted from Robert Zemeckis's original film. This show promises thrilling moments as young Marty McFly returns to the past with the DeLorean time machine, facing unexpected consequences.

Later, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” will enchant audiences at the Altria Theater from March 3 to March 8, 2026. This marks its historic return after 25 years, featuring new staging created by original members of its award-winning creative team.

Another highlight includes the Richmond premiere of “The Outsiders,” slated for March 24-29, 2026. This moving musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s novel and the subsequent film delves deep within the lives of Ponyboy Curtis and his friends, exploring themes of friendship and social class.

April 21-26, 2026, brings the soul-infused “The Wiz,” which reinterprets the classic “The Wizard of Oz” with contemporary touches, featuring celebrated director Schele Williams and choreography by JaQuel Knight, renowned for his work with Beyoncé.

The regular season concludes with “& Juliet,” which asks the thought-provoking question, “What if Juliet didn’t die?” This lively production, incorporating pop hits from Britney Spears and other artists, will run from May 12-17, 2026.

Alongside the main series, theater lovers can also opt for add-ons like “Les Misérables,” set for December 2-7, 2025. This highly acclaimed musical presents the tale of Jean Valjean set against the backdrop of revolutionary France and is noted for its powerful music and emotional depth.

With Richmond rapidly becoming a favored stop on the national tour circuit, Cindy Creasy, spokesperson for Broadway in Richmond, notes the importance of engaging local audiences with diverse programming. “We pay close attention to touring shows to book performances offering new premieres and blockbusters,” she said. “Richmond’s subscription base and beautiful Altria Theater continue to draw attention from major productions.”

Theater enthusiasts can purchase season subscriptions starting at $265 for the six-show regular series, with supplementary performance price packages beginning at $35. Individual tickets will also be made available closer to show dates, capturing the excitement of the upcoming theater season.
