Vung Tau - Binh Thuan Coastal Road Nears Completion

Major infrastructure projects are set to open on April 19, enhancing connectivity across southern Vietnam.

The Vung Tau - Binh Thuan coastal road (DT994), at the intersection with National Highway 51, has been basically completed, ensuring technical traffic flow on April 19, 2025. Construction units have mobilized maximum manpower and machinery, working around the clock to keep up with the progress before the technical traffic opening day.

Component project 3 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, passing through Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, includes 1 construction package that was started in June 2023. The entire route is 19.5 km long, with 11 bridges and 1 underpass, and the contractor is simultaneously deploying construction with more than 15 construction points, ensuring technical traffic flow by April 19.

Son Hai Group Co., Ltd. is constructing 14.2 km of road, and the Group has basically completed the porous asphalt concrete layer (the top layer of the road surface); median strip and traffic safety system, lane markings, signs, fence system, drainage ditch, tole guardrails, people's roads, etc., the value of the project reaches 96%.

Investment and Construction Company 703 is constructing 5.3 km of road and 2 overpasses of component project 3 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, deploying 5 construction points with nearly 75 equipment and 115 personnel, and is constructing asphalt concrete, people's gathering roads, roadside drainage ditches, traffic safety...

Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company 479 is constructing 9 bridges with nearly 50 equipment and 100 personnel. Component project 3 of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway has been inspected 4 times by the Standing Agency of the State Inspection Council for construction work acceptance and assessed that the project was constructed to ensure quality according to the approved design documents.

For the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan coastal road project (DT994), the section from Nha Lon Long Son to Cua Lap bridge, at package 17 from Nha Lon Long Son to the intersection of National Highway 51, the contractor has completed the asphalt concrete road surface and sidewalks.

At construction package 18, the section from the end of the National Highway 51 intersection to the beginning of Cua Lap bridge, the contractor is organizing the completion of the asphalt concrete layer, completing the drainage system, and constructing the structure of the upper part of Cay Khe 2 and Cay Khe 7 bridges.

For package 21 to build the new Cua Lap 2 Bridge, as of the afternoon of April 17, Cua Lap 2 Bridge has completed asphalt paving and opened the route, ensuring the goal of holding a technical traffic opening ceremony on April 19 will be completed as planned.

The Vung Tau - Binh Thuan DT994 coastal road project starts at the intersection with road 991B (Phu My city) and ends at the intersection with National Highway 55 in Binh Chau commune, Xuyen Moc district, with a length of 76.86 km and a total investment of more than 7,000 billion VND, which was started in June 2023, with a scale of 6 - 8 lanes, circulating at a speed of 80km/h.

Cua Lap 2 bridge under the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan DT994 coastal road project has been paved with asphalt on the afternoon of April 17, 2025. The DT994 road project passes through 4 districts and cities on the mainland of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, including: Phu My city, Vung Tau city, Long Dat district and Xuyen Moc district; in which, 5 component projects are assigned to the Provincial Department of Transport and Civil Works Project Management Board as the investor, the rest is invested by Long Dat district.

The project to upgrade and renovate the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan DT994 coastal road, once completed, will be an important connecting traffic route of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, connecting the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster, Long Son Industrial Park, Long Son petrochemical plant with all marine tourism economic areas in the East of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province stretching to Binh Thuan province; according to plan, by Quarter 3/2026, the entire route of the Vung Tau - Binh Thuan DT994 coastal road expansion project will be completed.

In a related development, at an online conference held on April 17, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Danh Huy highlighted the significance of the simultaneous groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies across the North, Central, and South regions on April 19, marking the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and national reunification.

In Ha Tinh, two component projects of the North - South Expressway in the East for the 2021 - 2025 period, Bai Vot - Ham Nghi and Ham Nghi - Vung Ang, which are invested by the Thang Long Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction), will also hold a technical traffic opening on April 19.

The opening ceremony for these two expressways will take place at the intersection with National Highway 8, connecting the Dien Chau - Bai Vot expressway with the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi expressway in Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district.

The Thang Long Project Management Board is currently in the final phase of preparations, ensuring that all technical conditions for the event are met, including security and traffic safety measures during the ceremony.

Contractors are working in three shifts to ensure timely completion of all auxiliary items, traffic connections, and gathering roads, with a focus on quality supervision and labor safety.

The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi project has a starting point connecting with the Dien Chau - Bai Vot project in Thanh Binh Thinh commune, Duc Tho district. The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi project will open the main route on April 26.

Out of a total of 35 km, contractors have completed paving the final layer of asphalt concrete and are now finalizing items such as installing medians, painting stripes, and guardrails.

The Bai Vot - Ham Nghi project is constructed by a joint venture between the Vietnam Import-Export and Construction Corporation and the 319 Corporation of the Ministry of National Defense. The project has faced challenges with weak soil foundations but is now nearing completion.

Mr. Tran Dinh Ngan, Director of Operations for the Bai Vot - Ham Nghi project, stated that the unit is responsible for constructing 10 large bridges, an intersection, and 12 km of the main project route, all of which are nearing completion.

As of the evening of April 17, contractors were still working overnight to finalize the remaining items in time for the traffic opening. The Ham Nghi - Vung Ang project, which spans 54 km, is also progressing well, with both packages achieving significant completion rates.

The end point of the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang project is the intersection connecting with QL 12C, which is also nearing completion. This intersection is crucial for connecting the expressway to the surrounding areas.
