Voting Opens For Urban Improvement Projects In Russia

Residents of Sterlitamak and Novosibirsk can choose public spaces for 2026 enhancements through a federal initiative.

As part of a federal initiative aimed at enhancing urban environments, residents of Sterlitamak and Novosibirsk are being called to participate in a significant voting process that will run from April 21 to June 12, 2025. This initiative, known as the "Formation of a Comfortable Urban Environment," allows citizens to select public spaces for improvement projects slated for 2026.

In Sterlitamak, locals can choose from five proposed sites for enhancement, each designed to revitalize community areas. The options include:

  • Improvement of the territory from Kirov Park to the Russian Drama Theater: Plans for this area include the installation of lighting, pedestrian paths, and small architectural forms.

  • Improvement of the territory from the Russian Drama Theater to the former Salavat cinema: This project proposes similar enhancements, including lighting, pedestrian paths, decorative landscaping, and small architectural forms.

  • Improvement of the pedestrian alley near house number 110 on Elevatornaya Street: This proposal includes lighting, video surveillance, pedestrian paths, small architectural forms, decorative landscaping, and a children's playground.

  • Improvement of the pedestrian alley near house number 100 on Elevatornaya Street: Enhancements here will also include lighting, video surveillance, pedestrian paths, and recreational areas.

  • Improvement of the sports ground on Nagumanova Street, 25G: This project aims to update the surface with rubber crumb and install new sports equipment.

To participate in the voting, residents must have an account on the Gosuslugi platform, where they can cast their votes for their preferred projects.

Meanwhile, in Novosibirsk, Mayor Maksim Kudryavtsev has urged citizens to engage actively in the selection process, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in shaping their urban spaces. "The All-Russian voting for the selection of facilities for improvement started on April 21, 2025. Each district of Novosibirsk has presented one of eight proposed facilities for renovation, and I invite all Novosibirsk residents to participate in choosing the territory that will be improved next year," he stated, as reported by the city’s press center.

The eight proposed projects in Novosibirsk include:

  • Oktyabrsky District: Area near the lake on Lazurnaya Street.

  • Kirovsky District: Kirovsky Square on Petukhova Street.

  • Primorsky District: Green area on Tvardovsky Street (near the "Biryuzovoe" microdistrict).

  • Dzerzhinsky District: M.I. Kalinin Square.

  • Kalinin District: Sosnovy Bor Park.

  • Central District: The second phase of Yeltsovsky Park (from Krasny Prospekt to Tankovaya Street, 24).

  • Leninsky District: S.M. Kirov Park.

  • Sovetsky District: Novomorskaya Embankment in the ObGES microdistrict.

Over the past five years, Novosibirsk has seen the transformation of more than 300 public spaces, thanks to federal projects. Notable achievements include the reconstruction of Zatulinsky Park, the square near the Monument of Glory, and improvements to the Mikhailovskaya Embankment and Zaeltsovsky Park. The city is also gearing up for the construction of the "Kamenka" park, which won the All-Russian vote in 2024, with over 230,000 residents participating in the selection process.

Voting for the public territory to be improved can be done through the zagorodsreda.gosuslugi.ru platform and the "Gosuslugi Reshaem Vmeste" mobile app, where volunteers will assist citizens in navigating the voting process.

As both Sterlitamak and Novosibirsk embark on this democratic process, the engagement of the community is crucial, ensuring that the selected projects reflect the desires and needs of the residents. With the deadline for voting approaching, citizens are encouraged to take part in shaping their urban environments for the better.
