Vladislav Namestnikov Secures Two-Year Contract Extension With Winnipeg Jets

The veteran forward signs for $6 million, affirming his role on the Stanley Cup hopefuls as they look to maintain their lead this season.

The Winnipeg Jets have officially signed forward Vladislav Namestnikov to a two-year contract extension, with the deal set to commence at the start of the 2025-26 NHL season. The announcement, made just before their game against the St. Louis Blues, confirms the average annual value of the contract at $3 million.

Namestnikov, now 32 years old, has been with the Jets for three seasons. He was acquired from the San Jose Sharks during the trade deadline of the 2022-23 season, and since then, he has established himself as an integral player on the team. This season alone, Namestnikov has amassed 10 goals and 29 points through 52 games, contributing significantly to the Jets’ strong performance as they aspire for playoff success.

His impressive record with the Jets reflects his versatility: Namestnikov is currently the second line center, offering support for notable teammates Nikolaj Ehlers and Cole Perfetti. This trio came together for 26 points during the Jets’ franchise-record-tying eight-game winning streak earlier this season.

Besides his contributions on the ice, Namestnikov has expressed his appreciation for the Jets organization and the city of Winnipeg. “It feels good. I love Winnipeg. Ever since I got here I’ve loved every second of it,” he remarked, emphasizing the familial atmosphere of the team. His head coach, Scott Arniel, has also praised Namestnikov’s character and versatility, noting how he effectively adjusts across various positions on the ice, making him invaluable to the Jets.

Namestnikov's NHL career has spanned over 12 years and seven different teams, which include the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings, and Dallas Stars, before landing with the Jets. Drafted 27th overall by Tampa Bay during the 2011 NHL Draft, he holds impressive stats: across 760 regular-season games, Namestnikov has recorded 327 points (136 goals, 191 assists), along with seven goals and seven assists accrued during playoff matches.

The announcement of Namestnikov’s extension signifies not just player loyalty, but also highlights the Jets' commitment to maintaining their current roster as they prepare for the upcoming seasons. His extension alleviates concerns as the franchise heads toward free agency, where other key players like Nikolaj Ehlers and Alex Iafallo are also entering the final year of their contracts.

Namestnikov’s contract will deftly handle the burdens of the off-season, allowing the Jets to concentrate on more pressing matters, such as their playoff run and maintaining their position atop the NHL standings. With this extension, both parties gain security moving forward: Namestnikov locks down his future within the franchise, and the Jets secure one of their most consistent contributors.

Jets players and coaches alike have responded positively to news of the contract, with sentiments of joy and relief echoing throughout the locker room. Teammate Colin Miller commented on Namestnikov's reliable presence on both ends of the rink, remarking on his defensive contributions and attentiveness during games. The focus within the Jets' organization continues to shift toward achieving success this season, and they evidently appreciate having experienced players like Namestnikov poised for the challenge.

The current season has been significant for both Namestnikov and the Winnipeg Jets, and the future gleams with promise. With 26 remaining games this season, the team has the chance to capitalize on Namestnikov's skills and experience, pushing toward their goal of playoff glory.
