Sydney will once again transform itself under the glow of color and creativity as Vivid Sydney returns to light up the city from May 23 to June 14, 2025. Celebrated as Australia’s largest festival, Vivid Sydney 2025 marks its 15th anniversary with the theme "Dream," inviting communities and visitors to explore the multifaceted nature of dreams and the adventures they inspire.

This year, festival organizers promise to illuminate the city with breathtaking light installations, coupled with world-class music performances, thought-provoking ideas, and immersive culinary experiences. Over 75% of the festival programming, including the iconic Vivid Light Walk, will be free for attendees, making this annual gathering accessible to all.

The Vivid Light Walk showcases cutting-edge animation and projection technologies, featuring notable installations like David McDiarmid’s "Kiss of Light" on the Sydney Opera House and Vincent Namatjira’s "King Dingo" at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Fashion label Romance Was Born will dazzle spectators with their "House of Romance" installation at Customs House, adding to the tableau of spectacular visuals.

Vivid Sydney continues to draw culinary inspiration, with renowned chef Nigella Lawson curates three exclusive Vivid Sydney Dinners held within the enchanting Muru Giligu tunnel. "Having loved it for years, it is the hugest thrill to be part of the Vivid Food program," Lawson expressed. The festival will also showcase local flavors through the popular Vivid Fire Kitchen and Chef Series.

On the music front, this year's festival promises extraordinary performances from artists such as Iceland’s Sigur Rós, British singer Anohni, and immersive live experiences set at the iconic Sydney Opera House. Other free concerts will run throughout the duration of the festival at Tumbalong Nights, where international artists and local talents will perform diverse genres.

The Ideas program at Vivid Sydney 2025 is set to inspire and engage audiences with talks by influential speakers like TIME Magazine’s Creative Director D.W. Pine and prominent sleep scientist Professor Matthew Walker. They will address topics ranging from the creative process to the mysteries of sleep, providing enriching experiences among the festivities.

Special attractions also include Netflix’s "Stranger Things: The Experience," which is set to make its Australian debut at Luna Park Sydney. This interactive adventure will transport fans to the nostalgic setting of 1986 Hawkins for thrilling escapades inspired by the hit show.

"Vivid Sydney continues to find exciting new ways to bring colour, creativity and fun to our city," stated The Hon. John Graham, NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism. The festival aims not only to celebrate creative arts but also to forge connections among diverse communities.

Festival Director Gill Minervini emphasized the significance of dreams as a universal theme, stating, "Dreaming is as old as time and as universal as life itself. Dreams can be prophetic, life-changing and inspirational" she continued, noting how this year’s program embodies the dream theme across its offerings.

Vivid Sydney 2025 promises visitors unrivaled experiences—each night, the city will come alive from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour, enveloping participants through its five distinct festival zones. The spotlight will shine on eight iconic landmarks, such as The Rocks and Barangaroo, ensuring no corner of Sydney remains untouched by the awe and beauty of this annual event.
