VITERBO - The Viterbo Carnival is back, and it's ready to make its grand entrance with its ninth edition set to roll out this weekend. Scheduled for Saturday, March 1, the festivities will kick off at 3 PM at Piazza San Sisto, where extravagant floats and costumed groups will parade through the city's streets.
The parade will take participants through via Garibaldi, Piazza Fontana Grande, via Cavour, Piazza del Plebiscito, via Ascenzi, Sacrario, and via Marconi, culminating with vibrant music and entertainment at Piazza Verdi.
On Tuesday, March 4, the celebration will continue at Piazza Verdi, starting at 3 PM, ensuring fun for all, especially children, with music, games, and engaging animations planned for the young attendees.
With the excitement gearing up for the carnival, local authorities have put several regulations in place to manage traffic and parking. Starting from 8 AM on February 28, and continuing until necessary on March 5, parking will be prohibited with forced removal at Piazza Verdi, particularly in front of the theater, to facilitate the stage setup.
On Saturday, March 1, from 10 AM to 8 PM, and as needed thereafter, parking will also be restricted at Piazza San Sisto and via Garibaldi. The restrictions will continue to expand from 11 AM, prohibiting parking on various streets including via delle Fabbriche, via Saffi, Piazza Fontana Grande, via Cavour, Piazza del Plebiscito, via Marconi, and more.
By 1 PM, all traffic will be interrupted across the entire carnival route, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of participants along the parade path. Access through Porta Romana, via F.lli Rosselli, and via Mazzini will also be limited with detours implemented through via della Marrocca.
On Tuesday, March 4, similar traffic measures will take place, with parking restrictions kicking off from 10 AM nearby Piazza Verdi. Traffic circulation will be prohibited from 1 PM onwards on via F.lli Rosselli, with vehicles previously heading via Santa Rosa redirected to via Marconi or via Matteotti.
Authorities warn there may be additional traffic control measures enacted if deemed necessary during the festivities. Local police officers will have the authority to allow transit for specific user categories under certain proven needs based on real-time traffic conditions.
For public transport users, starting at 1 PM on Saturday, March 1, bus routes will be modified. All buses arriving and departing for the Sacrario terminal will reroute through Porta Faul, with specific details available on the official website.
