RICHMOND – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is set to close sections of two roads for necessary pipeline replacement projects in early April 2025. These closures will impact local traffic as crews work to enhance the road infrastructure, ensuring safety and functionality.
On Thursday, April 3, VDOT will close Route 603 (Petersburg Road) near 442 Petersburg Road. The closure will last from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. during which time motorists will need to follow detour routes to navigate around the work zone. According to VDOT, "Motorists should follow the posted detours." Residents will still have access to their driveways throughout this operation, minimizing disruptions to local homeowners.
In Chesterfield County, two sections of Tall Pine Road will also undergo closures for a similar project. These closures are scheduled for Wednesday, April 2, and Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. VDOT has identified specific points of closure: one segment near 5400 Tall Pine Road and another at the intersection of Tall Pine Road and Old Bailey Bridge Road. Facilitating the needs of local residents, VDOT assures that homeowners will maintain access to their properties during this period.
VDOT has provided clear alternative routes for drivers to follow while the work is being carried out. For northbound traffic on Route 603, the detour is to travel north on Route 603 to Route 639 (Pilkington Road), then continue on Route 622 (Clayville Road) to Route 604 (Genito Road), returning south to Route 603. In contrast, southbound traffic will follow a different path: south on Route 603, then east to Route 604, south to Route 622, and finally south to Route 639 before heading back north on Route 603.
For the sections of Tall Pine Road, the detours are similarly structured. Northbound motorists should travel south on Tall Pine Road, continue to Old Bailey Bridge Road, then north to Bailey Bridge Road, and finally west to Timber Trail Drive. Conversely, the recommended route for southbound traffic directs drivers to go north on Tall Pine Road, east to Timber Trail Drive, and then south to Bailey Bridge Road, continuing to Old Bailey Bridge Road before returning north on Tall Pine Road.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay updated with the latest traffic updates provided by VDOT through their platforms. Anyone with specific inquiries about the projects can contact VDOT’s customer service center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623). Updated traffic information is also available on the VDOT website, 511Virginia, as well as through the free 511Virginia app for mobile devices.
As these projects commence, local motorists should prepare for potential delays and plan routes accordingly, keeping in mind the importance of these infrastructure enhancements. VDOT continues to prioritize both safety and accessibility, ensuring that all residents remain informed and inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
