According to the Aurora Police Department, they received reports on January 4 at around 11:15 PM of an argument within the 1900 block of South Vaughn Way involving multiple residents, culminating when one man allegedly assaulted a woman and threatened others with a firearm.
Officers dispatched to the scene included members from the police hostage negotiation team, who successfully facilitated the release of the woman involved. Unfortunately, just after 1:00 AM, the suspect reappeared, firing multiple rounds at the responding officers. A police officer returned fire, hitting the suspect, who was then rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Neighbors living nearby witnessed the chaotic scene firsthand. One resident, recalling the severity of the situation, commented, “There was 10 cop cars, caution tape wrapped around the whole entire building. Two CSI units and a SWAT team truck.
