Malayalam actress Vincy Aloshious has recently made headlines following serious allegations against a co-actor regarding drug use and inappropriate behavior on a film set. On April 16, 2025, during an Instagram video, Aloshious explained that her decision to avoid working with actors who use drugs stems from a troubling personal experience she encountered while filming.
Her comments came in the wake of an anti-drug awareness campaign where she stated, "I will not do movies again with people I know who use drugs." This declaration sparked a mix of support and backlash from netizens, prompting her to clarify her position in a video addressing the issue.
In her video, Aloshious recounted a distressing incident involving a male co-star who allegedly behaved inappropriately while under the influence of drugs. "When I had a problem with my dress, I went to correct it. He said, 'I will also come and correct it for you.' He said this in front of everyone. It was very difficult to go ahead with the shoot," she recalled, highlighting how uncomfortable the situation became.
Aloshious also described another alarming moment during a scene rehearsal when the actor was reportedly spitting a white powder onto the table, indicating drug use. "It was very evident that he was using drugs on the film set," she stated, emphasizing how such behavior created a toxic work environment.
Despite her discomfort and having raised the issue with the producers, the filming continued, as the actor in question was the lead artist. "Everyone knew about this; the director even spoke with him. This is one person they took as the main artist, so they had to somehow finish that movie," she explained, expressing her frustration with the situation.
Vincy's revelations come at a time when reports of drug abuse within the Malayalam film industry have been making headlines. Industry insiders, including producers and members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), have acknowledged the issue, with some claiming to have lists of known drug users. Police investigations are reportedly underway, scrutinizing around 300 individuals linked to the drug trade, some of whom are said to be from the film world.
Aloshious's decision to speak out is significant, as it reflects a growing concern about the impact of drug use not only on individual actors but also on the broader film industry. "This is not about judging someone’s personal choices, but when it affects others on set and makes the work environment toxic, I can’t support it," she stated, underlining the need for a safe and professional atmosphere in filmmaking.
Despite the potential fallout from her statements, including the possibility of losing opportunities in the industry, Aloshious remains firm in her stance. "Maybe because of this decision, I might not get many opportunities in films going forward. But I want to say it openly: If I am aware that someone is using drugs, I will not act in any film with them," she affirmed.
Vincy Aloshious, who debuted in 2019 with the film Vikruthi, has gained recognition for her performances, including a Kerala State Award for Best Actress for her role in Rekha. She has also appeared in notable films such as Jana Gana Mana and Marivillin Gopurangal. Her upcoming project, Soothravakyam, features actors Shine Tom Chacko and Deepak Parambol.
As the conversation around drug use in the Malayalam film industry continues, Aloshious's candidness may inspire other actors to share their experiences and advocate for a healthier work environment. The recent allegations highlight a pressing issue that, if left unaddressed, could tarnish the integrity of the industry and the safety of its artists.
