Vikings Projected To Trade Down In 2025 NFL Draft

CBS Sports predicts a strategic move for additional picks and impactful player selections.

The Minnesota Vikings are gearing up for the 2025 NFL Draft, entering with four selections, including the 24th overall pick in the first round. With the draft fast approaching, speculation is intensifying about the team's strategy, especially following a busy free agency period aimed at addressing various roster concerns.

According to Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, the Vikings are eyeing a trade that could significantly reshape their draft approach. In his latest mock draft, Trapasso envisions the Vikings trading the 24th pick to the Las Vegas Raiders. The proposed deal would see Minnesota acquire the Raiders’ second-round pick (37th overall), a third-round pick (68th), and a sixth-round pick (215th). If executed, this trade would enhance the Vikings’ overall draft capital, giving them a total of six picks in the upcoming draft.

With the new 37th overall pick, Trapasso predicts that the Vikings will select Xavier Watts, a standout safety from Notre Dame. Standing at 6 feet and weighing 204 pounds, Watts enjoyed an impressive college career, being recognized as Pro Football Focus’ sixth-highest-rated safety during the 2024 season. He showcased his skills by intercepting six passes, making him an appealing addition to a defense in need of bolstering.

Following Watts, the Vikings are forecasted to select wide receiver Isaiah Bond from Texas with their 68th pick. Despite being slightly undersized at 5'11" and 180 pounds, Bond brings a much-needed speed element to the Vikings' receiving corps, which already features star players such as Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson.

Finally, with the 97th pick, the Vikings are projected to nab Zy Alexander, a cornerback from LSU. At 6'1" and 187 pounds, Alexander proved to be a formidable defender, allowing a passer rating of just 53.2 against him during the 2024 season. His addition would augment a cornerback group that is talented but still has many unanswered questions behind established players like Byron Murphy, Jr.

This mock draft speculation and projected player acquisitions indicate that the Vikings are looking to balance immediate needs while also thinking strategically about the future. By trading down, they could create a deeper roster that enhances their chances in the upcoming NFL season.

As the 2025 NFL Draft draws near, Vikings fans are eager to see how these potential trades and selections will materialize into a cohesive plan that could redefine the team's trajectory. The combination of experienced players returning for the new season and exciting draft picks could signal a renewed focus on competitiveness in the league.
