The Vietnamese government has initiated various support programs aimed at improving the quality of life for its citizens, particularly focusing on poverty reduction and community welfare. These efforts, which span multiple sectors, are expected to strengthen social safety nets and empower vulnerable groups.
On January 22, 2025, as part of these efforts, the People's Committee of Hóc Môn held a meeting to summarize the management of grassroots associations over the past year. Deputy Chairwoman Huỳnh Thị Xuân Mai took the opportunity to elaborate on the progress made, stating, "The programs have not only assisted individuals but have also contributed significantly to the community welfare and development efforts." During the past year, Hóc Môn has seen the establishment and expansion of several associations aimed at offerings like healthcare and employment training, serving 247,157 members and growing by 5,049 new participants.
Such community-focused initiatives are echoed across other regions, particularly Quảng Bình, where the Women's Union has been proactive under the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction (2021-2025). This organization has provided training sessions for local leaders and extended 110 million VND to support cooperative initiatives, enabling women to gain economic independence. It is reported, "With the aim of improving the lives of underprivileged women, we are striving to support at least 80% of poor women households," highlighting these programs' aspirations for inclusivity and empowerment.
Beyond financial backing, the support also includes skill development. For example, the grassroots organizations organized 120 sessions for close to 7,000 women, offering insights on livelihoods and job opportunities. This type of active engagement is not isolated to women's groups; across the country, various associations and local governments are taking steps to lift communities' spirits as they tackle economic challenges.
Another illustrative case arises from the charitable activities conducted by the Red Cross Society, which mobilized nearly 40.4 billion VND to assist over 90,715 community members last year. Their outreach initiatives not only showcased tremendous financial assistance but also enhanced community bonds. A representative noted, "We mobilized nearly 40.4 billion VND to assist over 90,715 people, demonstrating our commitment to community support." This kind of support plays a pivotal role during high-demand periods, such as the Tet holiday, ensuring no one is left behind.
Safety during the Tet festivities has also been highlighted through joint ventures between law enforcement agencies and community leaders. A significant initiative took place along key traffic routes, where the police distributed water, provided helmets for children, and performed basic vehicle maintenance for travelers heading home. This initiative, which is documented as part of broader efforts to maintain public safety, speaks to the government’s intent to ease citizens’ concerns during this high-traffic season.
Significantly, the past year has also seen various measures targeting underprivileged groups, with special attention to the elderly and disabled. Local governments have facilitated housing projects, ensuring durable homes for families living on the margins. For example, organizations set aside funds—over 1.5 billion VND—to create or renovate nearly 41 homes, helping 508 families transition out of poverty.
These cooperative efforts are embraced fully by numerous local communities, as they realize the power of coming together to forge solutions for economic hardships. The long-term vision remains ambitious; groups aim to establish new cooperatives and businesses run by women, creating jobs and encouraging self-sufficiency. Analysts have pointed out the necessity of continual governmental support coupled with active communal participation for the lasting success of these initiatives.
Across Vietnam, the commitment to increasing the quality of life through systematic support programs and community engagement is apparent. Enthusiasm and strategic planning point the way toward sustainable growth, echoing the longstanding aspiration to create inclusive communities where every citizen has the opportunity to thrive.
With hopeful objectives for 2025, such as aiding more than 80% of female-headed families living below the poverty line, the government and partnering organizations are fully engaged. They are laying the groundwork for lasting change, fostering environments where both opportunity and support meet to uplift those most at risk.
