The exploration of Vietnam's diverse cultural and natural landscapes reveals the country's commitment to sustainability, rich culinary traditions, and vibrant art scenes. One such exemplary initiative is WAO Farm, located in Lưu Vĩnh Sơn, Thạch Hà, where sustainable farming practices blend harmoniously with eco-tourism to promote both agricultural advancement and environmental consciousness.
WAO Farm, under the umbrella of WAO Biotechnology Company, spans 1.5 hectares and began operations in 2022. This agricultural haven emphasizes the development of natural, safe, and high-quality produce. At its heart is the implementation of ecological farming techniques—an approach described by farm manager Trần Thị Thu Hương as akin to “meditation” in agriculture. She stated, "Nông nghiệp thuận tự nhiên được xem là một phương pháp 'thiền' trong nông nghiệp khi đảm bảo sự cân bằng về hệ sinh thái..." which translates to, "Natural agriculture is considered as a form of 'meditation' in agriculture, ensuring ecosystem balance..."
WAO Farm proudly showcases hundreds of seasonal crops, including cabbages, salad greens, carrots, and various fruits, all nurtured without the use of synthetic fertilizers or growth stimulants. By utilizing natural waste and traditional composting methods, the farm preserves local biodiversity. "We aim to create high-quality agricultural products, ensuring delightful flavors and nutritional richness alongside maintaining environmental balance," Hương shared.
Visitors to WAO Farm participate not only by witnessing the cultivation process but also engaging directly with the harvest, emphasizing the farm's role as a tourist attraction. Local resident Bùi Hải Hà remarked how thrilled she was to visit, enjoying the rich flavors of the produce and the farm's charming ambiance.
Moving from the fields to the culinary scene, Ho Chi Minh City is at the forefront of Vietnam’s vibrant food culture. Recently, its beloved bánh mì was ranked among the top four sandwiches globally by the culinary site TasteAtlas. This iconic dish, comprised of crispy baguette filled with flavorful meats and fresh vegetables, has captured the hearts of food enthusiasts both locally and abroad.
The city will host its third Vietnamese Bánh Mì Festival from March 21 to 24, 2025, anticipated to attract over 150,000 visitors. Along with bánh mì, cơm tấm was also highlighted, proudly ranking 25th on the same global list. Described as street food made from broken rice, it's often served with grilled pork and various accompaniments, showcasing the city's rich culinary heritage.
Art also plays a significant role in showcasing Vietnam's culture, highlighted by the recent exhibition at N.Gallery hosted at Hanoi Construction University. Over 50 artworks from renowned artists and students were displayed, demonstrating diverse mediums such as painting, sculpture, and photography. TS. Nguyễn Thị Lan Hương commented on the event's significance, stating, "Triển lãm là cầu nối giữa các cơ sở đào tạo Nghệ thuật và Thiết kế..." or "The exhibition serves as a bridge connecting educational institutions focused on art and design..."
This exhibition was not just about arts but also aimed at establishing stronger collaborations between academic institutions, making it easier for students to transition from education to practical application within the creative industries.
On another front, educational opportunities continue to flourish, as highlighted by recent visits from students of Trà Vinh High School to the University of Technology HUTECH. The students experienced modern learning environments, including advanced libraries, technologically equipped labs, and sports facilities, which form key components of the university’s holistic educational approach. Hồng Loan reported, "Chuyến tham quan không chỉ mang đến những trải nghiệm thực tế..." meaning, "The tour offers not only real-world experiences..." This sentiment reflects the excitement and motivation kindled among students considering their future educational paths.
Through various initiatives, from cultivating organic produce at WAO Farm to celebrating culinary milestones and promoting artistic endeavors, Vietnam is crafting a narrative of sustainable growth, cultural pride, and educational advancement. Each element contributes to the rich and diverse fabric of the nation, inviting both locals and foreigners to explore and appreciate its multifaceted beauty.
