Vietnamese Police Act Quickly On Multiple Investigations

Authorities tackle serious crimes including murder and vandalism by youth gangs.

On February 3, 2025, at approximately 7:30 AM, the Criminal Investigation Department of Bac Giang Province received reports from the Hiep Hoa District Police about a serious crime scene located at the border area between Thai Nguyen and Bac Giang provinces. According to initial reports, around 5:30 AM, at the Cau River, adjacent to Hop Thinh commune, Hiep Hoa district (Bac Giang), 34-year-old Ngo Van Thanh was shot and killed. He was on his family's boat when he was struck by gunfire to the left chest.

Given the severity and complexity of this incident, which impacted the local security situation, law enforcement took decisive action. The Criminal Investigation Department quickly alerted their leadership and collaborated with relevant units from Bac Giang Province Police, Hiep Hoa District Police, and Thai Nguyen Province Police to mobilize resources and implement various investigative techniques to determine the perpetrator.

Following more than 24 hours of intensive investigation led by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Hao, the department managed to persuade 25-year-old Nguyen Huy Quy, residing at Dam neighborhood, Thuan Thanh ward, Pho Yen city (Thai Nguyen), to surrender. He confessed to the act of murder and illegal possession of military-grade weapons.

Law enforcement officers also expanded their investigation and persuaded Luu Van Thi, 44, also from Dam neighborhood, to turn himself in for his involvement with these illegal arms. Upon conducting emergency raids on the residences of both suspects, police recovered two operational military-grade firearms (specific type: PCP pneumatic guns), 229 rounds of ammunition, and numerous parts for assembling more PCP guns.

Authorities have detained Nguyen Huy Quy for murder and illegal possession of military weapons, along with Luu Van Thi for illegal possession of these firearms. Both suspects have been kept under scrutiny as the criminal investigation continues.

Meanwhile, on the same evening, another crime caught the attention of the Nam Dinh authorities. They swiftly began investigating a group of young individuals who were reported for vandalizing vehicles. This incident occurred near the 'Old Church' beach area, located within Hai Hau district. On the evening of March 2, 2025, the police received reports about seven youths involved in the destructive activity, where they used makeshift swords to cut parts of motorcycles belonging to local residents.

These acts gained notoriety after being shared on social media, prompting police action. The disturbing images exhibited these youths not only damaging vehicles but also posing with the severed parts proudly, giving the community pause for concern.

The individuals identified included T.V.H. (2009), N.V.D. (2008), H.D.V. (2011), D.D.A. (2009), N.D.K. (2009), T.P.H. (2009), and P.T.H. (2009), coming from communities around Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province. What is particularly alarming is the involvement of one of the youths, D.D.A., who falls under the category of youth requiring supervision due to prior behavioral issues.

Local police are currently accelerating their investigation alongside authorities from the town of Con and Hai Xuan social precinct to verify and process these offenders according to legal statutes.

The issue has stirred anger among the community residents after footage emerged on social media showing the group cutting motorcycle registration plates with what appeared to be improvised swords, followed by photographs displaying their disdainful triumph over these acts.

Authorities are continuing to collect evidence and build comprehensive reports to appropriately address the incidents and manage public safety effectively.

Both cases highlight the challenges currently faced by law enforcement agencies as they strive to uphold public order and address acts of violence and vandalism swiftly and efficiently. The active participation of the community, alongside the efforts of local law enforcement, is integral for restoring peace and deterring future criminal activity. This commitment not only aims to serve justice but also fosters public trust and safety within the community.
