Vietnam Tops 2025 Spa Trends Report With Dramatic Increase

Emerging wellness destinations highlight shifting travel preferences as travelers seek rejuvenation and unique experiences.

The 2025 Travel Industry Trend Reports reveal exciting insights as travelers shift their preferences toward spa and wellness destinations. According to the third annual Spa Trends Report by SpaSeekers.com, Vietnam emerged at the top of the list with a remarkable 175% increase in searches for spa trips, signaling its rising popularity among wellness travelers.

Morocco followed closely behind, holding the second position with an 84% increase. The report emphasizes the diverse interests of travelers, highlighting destinations like Albania and Romania, both tying for third with their own impressive 83% rise in search activity. This surge reflects not just the appeal of these locations, but also the growing global trend toward self-care and relaxation.

Vietnam's picturesque landscapes, known for their tropical jungles and beautiful beaches, offer ideal settings for spa-goers seeking escapes from daily life. Various experiences await visitors, including meditation, thermal springs, and traditional Vietnamese massages blended with herbal baths. A rich spa history enhances its allure as travelers look to avail themselves of rejuvenative retreats.

Meanwhile, Morocco has established itself as a haven for those drawn to hammams, the traditional Moroccan steam bath. Recent trends show thalassotherapy gaining traction, wherein treatments involving water and seaweed are utilized to revitalize and soothe the body. The diverse offerings encourage visitors to immerse themselves fully in the local culture, enriching their travel experience.

Albania and Romania uniquely combine coastal and mountainous environments, making them attractive choices for spa enthusiasts. Albania's emergence as a top destination offers visitors the chance to explore its eclectic landscapes and rich cultural experiences, appealing especially to younger travelers. Romania, known for its natural wonder, also boasts numerous mineral and thermal springs, positioning it on the wellness map, particularly with the rising popularity of the TikTok-famous Therme spa located in Bucharest.

Looking globally, Gambia and Zimbabwe shared fifth place, each showing 56% growth, demonstrating the appeal of these destinations within Africa. South Africa, at seventh place with a 52% increase, showcases diverse spa experiences against its stunning natural backdrops, drawing travelers seeking serene retreats.

Other notable entries on the top list include Barbados, Cambodia, Panama, Qatar, South Korea, Seychelles, and Tunisia, all peaking at eighth place, each reporting remarkable 50% search growth. Each destination offers its own distinctive spa experiences, ranging from luxurious beachfront resorts to culturally enriched wellness traditions.

Others such as Singapore and China saw different growth trends, each marking 49% increases due to their modern spa facilities offering unique blends of traditional practices and contemporary luxury styles. Greece and Spain, both tied for seventeenth with 46% growth, continue to attract travelers with their sun-soaked beaches and rich spa histories.

Besides the increase in spa searches, the general travel industry is undergoing significant changes. Helloworld Travel reported a notable 20% drop in its first-half 2025 earnings (EBITDA), totaling $2.1 billion, and attributed this decrease to changing traveler preferences away from long-haul to mid-haul destinations like Japan, Bali, Thailand, and Fiji. This shift is recently marked by lower customer numbers and reduced airfares.

Contrastingly, Flight Centre Travel Group reported 7% growth year-on-year during the first half of the 2025 financial year, accompanied by strong recovery data. They posted $117 million underlying profit before tax, pointing to effective marketing strategies representing their rebound post-COVID challenges.

Insights from Amanda Derbyshire of MTA highlight the necessity for travel professionals to adapt to new market demands, emphasizing unique high-end travel experiences over standard offerings. "Travel is about creating unforgettable memories, going beyond just booking five-star hotels," she commented during the recent Travel Weekly Luxury Roadshow events held across major Australian cities. Her view reflects broader industry sentiments calling for personalized and experience-focused itineraries.

The travel sector's positive movements can also be seen from Destination DC's efforts to boost travel professional knowledge through the newly relaunched Special Agent Academy. This initiative aims to equip agents with comprehensive insights to sell unforgettable trips to Washington, DC, improving destination awareness.

Delta Air Lines showcased its commitment to community through a recent team-building exercise with community service, preparing and distributing meals for those experiencing hardship. Such efforts underline the broader trend of blending corporate responsibility with travel industry initiatives, fostering connections within local communities and enhancing brand loyalty.

The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show set for 26 to 30 March 2025 promises to be another convention drawing both local and international visitors, marking another step forward for the tourism industry.

The latest trends, new initiatives, and shifting preferences point toward a dynamic future for the travel industry as it adapts to the changing needs of travelers. There’s no doubt the demand for wellness-focused destinations like spa retreats will continue to flourish as the world emerges cautiously from the shadows of the pandemic.
