As Vietnam prepares to commemorate significant milestones in its history, the government has announced a series of events and initiatives to honor those who contributed to the nation’s revolutionary efforts. On April 30, 2025, the country will mark the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and National Reunification Day, while September 2, 2025, will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day. To honor these occasions, the President will present gifts to individuals with meritorious services to the revolution.
The proposed gift amount is 500,000 VND per person for the two occasions, which will be disbursed once on April 30, 2025. This initiative follows a proposal from the Ministry of Interior, which outlined the need to recognize the contributions of those who have served the nation. The Vice Prime Minister, Nguyen Hoa Binh, has approved this proposal and authorized the Minister of Interior to present it to the President.
According to the proposal, the recipients of these gifts will fall into two categories. The first group includes individuals who have made significant contributions to the revolution, such as those who participated in revolutionary activities before January 1, 1945, and those who are currently receiving monthly preferential allowances. This group also encompasses war heroes, including mothers of fallen soldiers and those affected by Agent Orange, who are also entitled to monthly benefits.
The second group comprises the relatives of individuals with meritorious services, including the families of deceased soldiers who are receiving survivor benefits. These measures aim to acknowledge the sacrifices made by both individuals and their families throughout Vietnam's tumultuous history.
In addition to these gift-giving initiatives, Ho Chi Minh City is gearing up for a grand celebration that includes a parade, fireworks, and various cultural performances. Approximately 13,000 participants are expected to take part in the parade on Le Duan Street, which will feature 48 different parade blocks, showcasing the spirit of unity and patriotism.
Rehearsals for the parade will take place on April 18 and April 22, 2025, from 9 PM to 12 AM, with a preliminary review scheduled for April 25 and a general rehearsal on April 27. The official parade will kick off at 6:30 AM on April 30, 2025, starting from the Nguyen Binh Khiem intersection and proceeding along Le Duan Street, passing in front of the Reunification Hall before splitting into four directions to return to the assembly point.
As part of the festivities, Ho Chi Minh City will also host fireworks displays at more than 30 locations, along with drone performances to enhance the celebratory atmosphere. Fireworks will be launched at the Saigon River cultural park in Thu Duc City on April 19 and April 26 at 9:30 PM. Furthermore, on April 19, 2025, the city will showcase 2,000 drones over the Saigon River area.
The grand finale of the celebrations will occur on April 30, 2025, when 10,500 drones will light up the skyline over the Saigon River, Thu Duc City, and District 1 from 8:30 PM to 8:45 PM. High-altitude fireworks will be launched at 9 PM at the Saigon River park and Ben Duoc Temple in Cu Chi District, while low-altitude fireworks will be visible across 28 districts in Ho Chi Minh City.
In addition to these spectacular displays, the city will organize a series of cultural events titled "Colors of Uncle City" from April 19 to April 30, 2025. These events will take place in front of the People's Council and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, as well as on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street. The highlight of the celebrations will be the "Day of National Reunification" program on April 30, featuring a 3D mapping art projection in collaboration with creative teams from France, Singapore, Belgium, and Vietnam.
Moreover, a lighting show will take place on the night of April 19 in front of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, further enhancing the festive atmosphere leading up to the main events. A special parade performed by the Ministry of Public Security will also take place on April 30, showcasing the city's commitment to honoring its history and culture.
