Vietnam Launches VietChain Talents Competition For Blockchain Innovation

The initiative aims to nurture young talents and promote blockchain technology across the nation.

On May 6, 2025, the VietChain Talents 2025 competition was officially launched in Hanoi, marking a significant step in the development of Vietnam's blockchain ecosystem. Organized by the Government Cipher Committee and the Vietnam Blockchain Association, the competition aims to discover, nurture, and build a high-quality workforce for the domestic blockchain technology industry.

Supported by over 50 entities, including state agencies, technology companies, and universities, the initiative seeks to promote digital transformation and raise awareness of distributed ledger technology among the Vietnamese community. Dr. Hoang Van Thuc, Director of the Academy of Cryptographic Techniques and a representative of the organizing committee, emphasized the long-term commitment to supporting young talents, stating, "Young talents are the foundation of the digital nation. We believe that through the VietChain Talents 2025 competition, a generation of Vietnamese blockchain engineers will emerge, daring to think and act, and will be competitive on the international stage."

The competition will evaluate solutions based on various criteria, including the self-assessment of the participating teams and their commitment to promoting their solutions in the future. The event officially commenced on May 6, 2025, and will accept submissions until June 20, 2025. With a total prize pool of up to 3.5 billion VND, the competition will focus on four themes. The first prize for the Blockchain Layer 1 theme is valued at 1 billion VND, while the first prizes for three other themes—Centralized/Decentralized Exchange, Blockchain Tracking, and Blockchain Bridge—are worth 500 million VND each. Additionally, universities with high-achieving teams can receive a reward of 200 million VND.

On the same day, the company 1Matrix, a member of the Vietnam Blockchain Association, was officially launched. The company aims to develop a “Make in Vietnam” Layer 1 blockchain network. Phan Duc Trung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of 1Matrix, emphasized the goal of mastering core technology and establishing blockchain as a key digital infrastructure for public data, public services, and digital finance in Vietnam. He stated, "Mastering technology not only enhances internal capabilities but also contributes to ensuring national sovereignty over data amidst widespread digital transformation."

As the competition unfolds, it is expected to play a crucial role in fostering innovation and creativity among participants, ultimately leading to advancements in blockchain technology within the country. The VietChain Talents 2025 competition represents a strategic initiative to build a robust ecosystem for blockchain in Vietnam, aligning with the nation's broader goals in digital transformation.

Dr. Hoang Van Thuc's remarks reflect a growing recognition of the importance of nurturing talent in the technology sector. He noted, "We are committed to accompanying talents not just in this competition but through long-term training and support to attract and utilize talents effectively." This commitment is crucial as Vietnam positions itself as a competitive player in the global blockchain landscape.

The VietChain Talents 2025 competition is not just about awards; it is about creating a sustainable future for blockchain technology in Vietnam. The competition's structure encourages participants to engage deeply with their projects, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility that is essential for the development of innovative solutions in the blockchain space.

Furthermore, the launch of 1Matrix signifies a pivotal moment in Vietnam's blockchain journey. As Trung highlighted, "The 'Make in Vietnam' blockchain network will serve as a decentralized digital infrastructure for public data, public services, and digital finance, paving the way for the Vietnamese digital economy." This initiative underscores the government's commitment to leveraging local talent and resources in the technological realm.

As the competition progresses, it will be interesting to see how participants respond to the challenges and opportunities presented. With a focus on collaboration and innovation, the VietChain Talents 2025 competition could potentially lead to breakthroughs that enhance Vietnam's standing in the global technology arena.
